Honda has announced that it has managed to sell one million
hybrid vehicles, some 13 years after the first generation Insight went
on sale in Japan, which at the time was the world’s most fuel-efficient
gasoline-powered vehicle.
They managed to reach 100,000 units sold in April of 2005, following the
2004 launch of the Accord Hybrid, for the North American market.
Following the launch of the second generation Insight, in February of
2009, and the CR-Z and Fit Hybrid in 2010, by the end of the year they
had totaled 600,000 sold.
The last hybrid to be launched, which made a difference, is the Acura
ILX hybrid, which is only available in Canada and the US. Their range of
hybrids now totals 8 models, which are sold in some 50 countries around
the world, and have a very devoted audience.
