Chevrolet Corvette C7 to be unveiled on January 13 in Detroit

Expected to get a V8 5.5-liter engine.

General Motors has announced this week that the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette (C7) will make its public debut at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show on January 13. Along with the seventh generation Vette, GM is showing the all-new emblem that according to the company’s vice president of global design “reflects the character of the next Corvette.”

Based on the most recent reports, the C7 is an entirely new model, except for the removable roof panel’s rear latch and the cabin air filter. There will be a lot of changes inside the cabin, while on the outside it will retain some of the traditional elements, like the short rear deck and the long hood. It will also feature round taillights and is expected to be powered by a V8 engine with direct-injection. While the C6 has a displacement of 6.2-liters, the new model could be downsized to 5.5-liters, but it should be more powerful and frugal.

The production of the Corvette C7 will commence in August or September next year, while the Bowling Green, Kentucky factory where they currently make the C6 is expected to be shut down in February next year.

GM has also made a countdown for the new Corvette where they will provide additional info and videos in the weeks to come.
