Honda WRV Jazz based crossover rendered

The Japanese car-maker Honda will be introducing its new model Honda WR-V, which will be a crossover model of Jazz during the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show in November.

by Tony George of www.oncars.in

As per the pictures from QuatroRodas Brasil we have come across a few new renderings of the upcoming Honda WR-V, which will be a Jazz-based crossover. This new model is mostly expected to be introduced by the car-maker during the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show in November, what makes it more interesting for the Indian auto enthusiasts is the fact that this new jazz based crossover is rumoured to be in the pipeline for the Indian automobile market in 2017.

The company will drop off its “Fit Twist” nameplate for “WR-V”, so that the new model can stay away from the regular Honda fit/jazz. Honda will be giving WR-V a unique identity unlike its previous models which looked like a Honda Fit with rugged accessories. However there are certain features seen on the new WR-V that reminds us that this new car is based on the Fit, tail lamps and glasshouse design are a few to name.

Honda will offer the WR-V with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC FlexOne engine from the Fit, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT unit. This engine develops a maximum power of 115 hp (petrol)/116 hp (ethanol) and 149 Nm (petrol)/150 Nm (ethanol) of torque in Fit. As per reports the wheelbase measures 2.60 meters long, this is 50 mm longer than the hatchback. Honda has recently made the grand launch of its seven seater SUV model BR-V to the Indian market; the Indian automobile market can expect WR-V by 2017.

Honda BR-V Compact SUV Pictures Released; India Launch in May, 2016

Honda has recently revealed the official images of the India-bound BR-V compact SUV in its latest digital teaser campaign - #WhereNextWithBRV. Honda Car India has revealed the BR-V ahead of its official launch on May 5 and plans on showcasing the vehicle in various cities prior to launch, as part of its pre-launch marketing activities. Based on the extended Brio platform, the Honda BR-V seems to have taken some of its design cues from the Mobilio MPV. In India the car will go up against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster facelift.

In the digital teaser currently shows the BR-V's journey across the state of Rajasthan exploring its beautiful cities. As the campaign name suggests, Honda is asked its social media followers as to which would be the BR-V's next destination with each city they cross.

Coming to the car itself, in terms of looks, the India-spec Honda BR-V is identical to the global model we drove last year. Based on the extended Brio platform, the Honda BR-V seems to have taken some of its design cues from the Mobilio MPV. The SUV comes with a beefy front end with a large chrome slatted grille flanks by stylish horizontal headlamps with projector lamps. The sculpted bonnet along with the muscular bumper housing the chrome bezeld fog lamps, large air dam and skid plate, gives the BR-V its aggressive stance.

The side profile of the BR-V features black plastic under body cladding, sharp character line, large roof rails, Mobilio-style large windows, and 16-inch sporty alloys. The rear section of the car is relatively new compared to any other Honda cars in India with the most prominent addition being the single unit tail lamps that coupled with the chrome accents gives the car upmarket feel. The features and cabin for the India spec model is expected to remain unchanged. Although some of the features that will be a part of the India-bound model include - dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HAS), etc.

Under the hood, the Honda BR-V will be powered by a 1.5-litre SOHC, 4-cylinder, 16-valve i-VTEC engine that churns out a maximum of 117bhp and a peak torque of 146 Nm. The SUV will also feature a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit that powers the City and Mobilio, producing 99bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Transmission options will include Honda's signature CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) gearbox along with a 5-speed unit.

Honda Mobilio to be discontinued in India to make room for BR-V?

Honda Mobilio (Honda Fit CUV)
Honda BR-V (more traditional SUV styling)
by Nithyanandh Karuppaswamy of www.rushlane.com

A recent report in Times Of India alleges that the Honda Mobilio MPV could be discontinued in India owing to steadily dropping sales numbers. The car which started off with a monthly sales figure of around 3,500 units had registered 441 units and 226 units in this January and February respectively.

Withdrawal of the Mobilio from the market would also give Honda Car India a better room to position its upcoming BR-V which is essentially a more rugged variant of the Mobilio with upmarket dashboard. With the Hyundai Creta dominating the market and Renault Duster receiving a facelift, it’s imperative for Honda to get BR-V’s pricing right. We think the BR-V should be retailed in the similar price bracket as the Mobilio to make an impact, and discontinuing the MPV is the only way to avoid cannibalization.

The BR-V would be launched in the Q1 of FY2016-17 with heavy localization. The car maker’s Tapukara plant is reportedly getting ready to produce the vehicle. Honda Car India would be hoping that the BR-V will garner consistent sales volume that the Mobilio couldn’t.

15yo Indian boy battling aging disorder buddies up with Honda's Asimo

Nihal Bitla takes a selfie with Honda's humanoid robot Asimo in suburban New Delhi on Feb. 2. (Photo by Shinya Sawai)
by HIROSHI KOTANI

NEW DELHI   Nihal Bitla, a 15-year-old Indian boy with a genetic aging disorder, had three dreams: to take a ride in a Lamborghini, to meet Honda Motor's robot Asimo, and to go to Disneyland. Last year, he got his chance to check out the Italian supercar. And in early February, he found himself face to face with his favorite humanoid.

The encounter happened just outside New Delhi at the venue for Auto Expo 2016 on Feb. 2. It was the day before India's largest motor show opened. Nihal's family had traveled from their home in a Mumbai suburb, more than 1,000km away.

The big moment came at 4 p.m. With Nihal watching from a front-row seat, Asimo stepped on stage. The robot walked slowly, waving its left hand, to the center. Then it bowed to the young man, putting its palms together in front of its chest to perform the namaskar gesture. Nihal put his small, frail hands together and returned the greeting. With that, the show began.
Nihal Bitla, one of about 130 recognized sufferers of progeria worldwide, plays with a robotic dog. (Photo by Subhash Sharma)
ONE IN 18 MILLION   Nihal is the eldest son of Srinivas Bitla, 39, and Devi Bitla, 33. His father, Srinivas, runs a cellphone repair shop. The couple has three children.

Srinivas and Nihal share a birthday -- Jan. 20. Srinivas said he was "very excited" when his son was born and, wishing him a lifetime of happiness, named him Nihal, which means "joyous and successful."

Nihal weighed 3kg at birth. Before long, his body started to change. First, small spots and specks appeared on his skin. When he grew enough to sit, his head expanded and his hair began to fall out. His father took him to hospital after hospital, but no doctor was able to diagnose the problem. Finally, five years ago, they found Parag M. Tamhankar, a doctor at the National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health in Mumbai.

Tamhankar told them that Nihal was born with progeria, or Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome. Sufferers experience rapid aging -- seven to eight times faster than normal -- and live only to 14 on average. There are no known cures.

This congenital genetic disorder is said to occur at a rate of one in about 18 million people, regardless of race or gender. As of Jan. 1, the Progeria Research Foundation in the U.S. state of Massachusetts recognized 134 sufferers worldwide, including people with similar disorders.

Nihal shows typical symptoms: He has deep wrinkles on his face and hands. He has no hair and weighs only 14kg. With his small, lean frame, he faces a high risk of heart attack. His outlook, however, is positive. "I'm happy as I am," he said. "I don't want to be like an ordinary child."

Like many 15-year-olds, Nihal is shy. But he has a passion for robotics. At home, he has a small remote-controlled robot that he has disassembled and reassembled more than 15 times. He loves to watch YouTube videos of robots and other mechanical devices. When he talks about the history of Asimo, his eyes brighten.

Katsushi Inoue, president of Honda Cars India, heard about Nihal's dream to meet Asimo last September, when the company was beginning to plan for Auto Expo. Honda decided to invite Nihal and his family to a special stage presentation. Inoue kept a message for Nihal in mind as he prepared the show: "Stay courageous. Asimo will come and cheer you up."

FAST FRIENDS   During the performance, Asimo pulled off its signature tricks with ease. It stood on one leg, jogged and kicked a soccer ball. Then the robot danced to "India Waale," an upbeat song from a Bollywood movie. Nihal clapped along.

The best part, for Nihal, may have come after Asimo finished strutting its stuff. He went up on stage and approached the robot. His father handed him a smartphone so that he could snap a selfie with his high-tech buddy.

"I always liked Asimo," Nihal said. "He was my most favorite, and he will remain my favorite. We became friends on stage."

Asked whether he would buy an Asimo if Honda started selling the robot, he was quick to say "yes." Told the robot might be very expensive, he replied with a smile, "I can save money to buy it."
Nihal asked to meet the Honda team that works with Asimo. He peppered the engineers, who had come over from Tokyo, with questions like: "How long does it take to program Asimo?" "How much does Asimo move on a single charge of its battery?" "How many sensors are used in Asimo?"

RAISING AWARENESS   India, with its vast population, may have more than 60 people with progeria, but the U.S. research foundation is aware of only four. Nihal is leading a campaign to raise awareness, find unrecognized patients and introduce them to treatment options.

Trials have shown that Lonafarnib, a cancer drug, is effective in reducing progeria symptoms to a certain extent, and Nihal takes the medication twice a day. Still, nobody can tell how long he will be able to carry on. "I am ready to accept everything," his father said.

Dream No. 3, going to Disneyland, is still on the to-do list. Nihal's parents are hoping to arrange a trip to California.

Honda Amaze Facelift Launched in India; Priced From 5.29 Lakh

This car is not for North America, think of a Honda Fit as a sedan....
Keeping up with the growing competition, Honda Cars India has launched the new Amaze facelift in the country with prices starting at 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The popular selling compact sedan gets a host of cosmetic and feature upgrades including a refreshed front and rear fascia and new colour options. The cabin too receives an upgrade thus adding to the premium feel of the car. In addition, Honda has also increased the prices for the Amaze facelift range, in-line with the new taxation policies announced under the Union budget.

To begin with, the Honda Amaze facelift gets a revised front fascia sporting a wider single chrome grille, similar to the Mobilio, while the headlamp cluster gets smoked treatment for a more upmarket appeal. The bumper too has been tweaked and gets a three-part layout with larger air-intakes, intended to lend a fresh look to the compact sedan. The side profile retains its  styling, whereas the rear gets revised tail lamps and boot lid.

The Honda Amaze facelift's cabin gets extensive upgrades with a completely new centre console with brushed aluminium inserts and piano black finish and looks very premium. The instrument cluster has been tweaked as well. Honda has retained the dual tone beige and black colour interior scheme, three-spoke steering wheel and gear shift knob on the facelifted version. The air-con vents are squared now and look sharp, compared to the round ones seen on the outgoing model.

Things remain the same under the hood with the Honda Amaze facelift powered by the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine tuned to produce 87bhp and a peak torque of 109Nm, while diesel power comes from the 1.5-litre i-DTEC motor tuned for 99bhp of power and peak torque of 200Nm. The fuel efficiency figure for the petrol variant stands at 17.8 km/l (MT) and 18.1 km/l (CVT), while the diesel returns a fuel economy of 25.8 km/l. Transmission options include the same 5-speed manual and a  first in segment CVT unit.

The people at Honda say that the CVT has been tuned to provide seamless power without compromising on fuel efficiency. Honda however, claims that the new Amaze has better NVH levels while improvements have been made to the ride quality as well. As far as safety features are concerned, the Amaze will come with dual airbags as an option from the base variant. However, Honda mentions that Dual airbags will be introduced as a standard feature in all of Honda's models which will be launched from FY 16-17.

The Amaze managed to change Honda's fortunes in India when it first went on sale in 2013 being the youngest sedan from the Japanese manufacturer and the first model from the company to get a diesel heart. Over the years, manufacturers have introduced better and more effective products in the segment. With the facelift, the Amaze continues to stay relevant in the highly competitive segment. Bookings for the new Amaze facelift has commenced at dealerships across the country.

Honda Reveals the 7 Seater BR-V (Bold Revolutionary Vehicle) in India

by Ben Hsu of www.leftlanenews.com

Honda has debuted the production version of its 7-seater BR-V crossover at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo.

The BR-V, which stands for Bold Runabout Vehicle, was designed for developing nations such as India and Indonesia. In fact, it was introduced in concept form at the Indonesia International Auto Show last August.

Honda will offer both petrol and diesel engine options, both 1.5-liter units. The i-VTEC petrol motor is rated at 118 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 107 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm, while the i-DTEC mill puts out 98.6 horsepower and 147.5 lb-ft of torque, according to Indian Autos Blog. Available transmissions include a 6-speed manual standard, or an optional CVT.

Measuring 175.4 inches in length, it is shorter than a Honda CR-V but sports a 2+3+2 seating configuration thanks to a longer 104.7-inch wheelbase. For comparison, a CR-V measures 179.4 inches from nose to tail and has a 103.1-inch wheelbase.

Pricing is expected to start at 800,000 Indian rupees, or US$11,786. Fully optioned versions will go for 1.2 million rupees, or $17,678 USD.

There are currently on plans to bring the BR-V to North America. The BR-V will hit Indian roads this summer. 2016 will mark Honda's 20th year in the Indian market, the fourth largest contributor to Honda's global sales.

Honda BR-V: All You Need to Know (not for North America)

Think of this as another take on the HR-V here in North America....
By Ishaan Rastogi |of www.auto.ndtv.com

President of Honda Cars India, Katsushi Inoune, recently announced that the wheels had been set in motion to bring the company's new BR-V compact SUV to Indian shores by mid-2016. The car was first showcased at this year's Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) and will be launched in Indonesia this December. Here's a look at all that you need to know about Honda's upcoming compact SUV.
Design and Interiors
Developed on the same platform as the Honda Brio hatchback, Honda Amaze compact sedan, and Honda Mobilio people carrier, the Honda BR-V, or Bold Runabout Vehicle, bears a few similarities to its MUV cousin on its sides but the front and rear facades have been designed to look far more aggressive and SUV-esque. In fact, despite being categorized as a compact SUV, the side profile of the BR-V looks distinctly similar to the Mobilio thanks to its large glass house, long wheelbase and prominent roof rails.

The front-end features smoked, angular headlamp units that sit in continuation with the two-part, all-chrome front grille assembly. The heavily sculpted bumper is meaty and adds ruggedness to the car's look. It also stands 201mm of the ground, which is almost the same ground clearance as the Renault Duster.
Moving on the rear end of the car. The horizontally mounted LED tail-lamp clusters are connected by a brake light that runs across the width of the car, right below the rear windscreen. The tailgate itself is large and extends quite a way down and should make the Honda BR-V a breeze to load. The number plate is fitted on the tailgate itself and features a thick chrome highlight above it. The long rear overhang does make the car seem more like an MPV but on the plus side, the BR-V gets a third row of seats which is capable of comfortably fitting two adults.
Honda BR-V Dimensions:
Length: 4,456mm
Width: 1,735mm
Height: 1,666mm
Wheelbase: 2,660mm
Ground Clearance: 201mm
Passenger Capacity: 7
On the inside, the Honda BR-V receives pretty much the same all-black themed dashboard as those found in the Honda Jazz and Honda City. The large touchscreen infotainment system sits in a piano black housing with the HVAC controls located beneath it. Both the middle and rear row of seats get adequate leg and headroom, making the BR-V a proper 7-seater. Other features are likely to include ABS, EBD, rear air-conditioner, and new 16-inch alloy wheels. The list of expected features is mentioned below.

Honda BR-V Expected Features:
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
Hill Start Assist (HSA)
Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)
Dual Front Airbags
16-inch Alloy Wheels
Rear Air-conditioner
Engine and Performance
In India, the Honda BR-V will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. Both engines are currently doing rounds in several other Honda offerings like the City and Mobilio. The petrol powertrain is currently offered with an optional CVT automatic gearbox on the Honda City sedan and it is likely that the BR-V will also receive a similar powertrain. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine makes 119bhp and 145Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that's currently present in the Jazz, Amaze, City, and Mobilio, makes 99bhp and 200Nm of torque.

However Honda claims that it's attempting to improve the performance of its diesel engine. Some additional reports have suggested that a more powerful 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine may be offered instead of the 1.5-litre.
Honda BR-V Engine Specifications:
1. Petrol
Engine: 1,496cc i-VTEC petrol
Power: 119bhp
Torque: 145Nm
Mileage: 17-18Km/l (expected)
Transmission: 6-speed MT, CVT
2. Diesel
Engine: 1,498cc i-DTEC diesel
Power: 99bhp
Torque: 200Nm
Mileage: 24-25Km/l (expected)
Transmission: 6-speed MT

Pricing and Competition
Upon its launch in India next year, the BR-V will be competing in one of India's most competitive automotive segments. It will face competition from the likes of the well-settled Renault Duster, hot-selling newcomer Hyundai Creta, and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. Prices are expected to range between 8 lakh - 12 lakh.

Honda BR-V Compact SUV to Debut in August; Sketches Revealed (Not for North America)

by Vikas Yogi of www.auto.ndtv.com

It's no secret that Honda is working on a compact SUV that will be based on the extended Brio platform. Interestingly, a couple of units of the Brio-based compact SUV, codenamed '2SJ', were imported to India last month for testing and development purpose. This only cements Honda's intention of launching it in India as well. To further give weight to the speculations, Honda has now released the official sketches of an all-new compact SUV - the BR-V - that will also be based on the platform shared with Brio. This hints at the company's intentions of launching the same vehicle across most Asian markets, including India.
Just so you know, Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co. Ltd (HRAP) Thailand has developed the new BR-V for the Asian market. Also, BR-V is the third product to be developed by HRAP.

The company has informed that the Honda Brio BR-V will make its debut at the upcoming Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show 2015, which is scheduled to take place from August 20 - August 30 in Tangerang, Indonesia.

With 3-row configuration, the BR-V will accommodate 7 passengers easily. About the BR-V's engines, it will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine - the same as the one that powers the Honda Fit and City. Though, for the Indian market, the carmaker might also offer the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit, which it uses for its diesel cars here.

Euro-spec 2014 Honda CR-V gets new diesel engine and gearbox

by Bala Subramaniam N  |  Jaipur of www.business-standard.com

Honda has released details about the 2014 Honda CR-V for Europe that includes a new powerful 1.6-litre diesel engine and new 9-speed automatic transmission. The exterior of the new Honda CR-V features new headlamps, front grille, fog lights, skid-plate and bumper, new LED combination lamps, a refreshed tailgate design and bumper. The more powerful 1.6-litre i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel engine replaces the old 2.2.-litre diesel engine and produces 160 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard while a new nine-speed automatic transmission is offered as an option with four-wheel drive model.

The new 1.6-litre i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel engine is from Honda's Earth Dreams Technology series and delivers a class-leading sub 130 g/km of CO2, 11% better than its predecessor. The two-wheel drive diesel CR-V, available with a manual transmission, will be equipped with the 120 PS 1.6 litre i-DTEC diesel engine, with emissions as low as 117 g/km.

Now, whether Honda will bring the new CR-V with the 1.6-litre diesel engine is the question. We all wish it does. Honda CR-V in India continues to be powered by 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol engines for 2WD and 4WD versions respectively. And bringing in the diesel engine will surely provide a wider range of audience to appeal to.

Honda Brio Based Compact SUV Might Be Launched by 2016 (India)

by Vikas Yogi of http://auto.ndtv.com

Honda's EcoSport rivaling compact SUV is believed to be ready for an unveiling next year. Though there isn't much information available yet, word has it that the Brio based compact SUV could be revealed next year. The SUV is being developed explicitly for the emerging markets and hence, it is likely that the SUV will be launched in India too. If the rumours are anything to go by, the SUV is likely to be launched in India by 2016.

The Brio-based SUV will be priced competitively, and one can expect some resemblance with the CR-V in terms of design. In the front, the SUV could take design cues from Amaze and Mobilio, while its rear could feature CR-V inspired tail-lamps, a tapered rear-quarter glass and a lower entry-point boot.

Under the bonnet we expect to see a 1.5-litre, i-VTEC petrol; the diesel range of the Brio based SUV is will most probably come equipped with the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. Both the engines power the new City line-up, so expect the Brio based SUV to be equally frugal. As far as its price is concerned, the SUV could be accompanied by a starting price tag of Rs. 6.5 lakh, which could go up to Rs. 11 lakh. Furthermore, much like the Mobilio MPV, this yet unnamed SUV will also get a better equipped RS variant.

In the domestic market, the SUV will face stiff competition in the compact SUV segment from the likes of Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and a couple of other upcoming SUVs awaiting a launch in India soon.

Could Honda's Future 1.0-Liter Be World's Most Efficient Engine?

Honda Brio, not sold here in North America
The last time Honda made a 1.0-liter gasoline engine, it broke new records for fuel efficiency.

Found under the hood of the original Insight hybrid, it still has the highest gas mileage of any EPA-rated non-plugin. It also took International Engine of the Year in 2000, and won that competition's sub-1-liter class seven times.

That's a high bar to aim for, but Honda says its latest 1.0-liter engine could set new records for gasoline engine efficiency.

According to The Financial Express (via Indian Autos Blog), the Japanese automaker is currently working on a global small engine for use in a new small car due for launch in 2017.

It will be available in both naturally-aspirated and turbocharged formats. The latter could find its way into some of Honda's bigger small-cars, like the Fit, in some markets.

At the moment, Honda's smallest regular gasoline unit is a 1.2-liter four-cylinder used in the Brio, a subcompact sold in markets like India, Thailand and Indonesia. In local tests, it achieves mileage of 46 mpg combined.

The new engine would find its way into cars aimed at similar markets, complementing a 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel also sold in Far-Eastern countries where diesel power is highly desirable.

The company does of course produce smaller 660cc gasoline engines for its kei-car range, though these vehicles are sold only in Japan.

Honda itself is not yet commenting on the new unit, so it's unclear whether it will take the form of a three- or four-cylinder unit.

The company's last 1.0, as used in the Insight, was a development of the three-cylinder line used in the company's kei-cars. It displaced 995cc and its 12 valves were operated using Honda's familiar VTEC valve timing.

It produced 68 horsepower, and 67 lb-ft of torque at 4,800rpm--numbers boosted to 73 hp and 83 lb-ft at a much reduced 1,500rpm thanks to an electric motor.

Low-viscosity oil helped reduce friction, as did the lack of a balancer shaft, usually used to smooth out the uneven beat of 3-cylinder units. It also featured lean-burn technology to reduce fuel use, though emissions regulations mean lean-burn is no longer used due to higher oxides of nitrogen.

With a five-speed manual, the first-generation Insight is rated at 53 mpg combined (49 mpg city, 61 mpg highway) by the EPA.

Honda Releases New Images of Mobilio; to Get Soft Launch in Malls

By greeshma m  of www.ibtimes.co.in

Honda Cars India Limited has released a new set of images of its much-anticipated MPV Mobilio on the company's website, hinting that the launch of the Mobilio is just around the corner.

Honda Mobilio, a much-anticipated and desired MPV in the domestic market, has been rumoured for an India launch for quite some time. Now, the company has suggested that auto enthusiasts in the country will finally get the chance to steer the Mobilio from July.

Auto lovers, who do not have the patience to wait till July, can head down to popular malls in the country in the coming days to get a glimpse of the vehicle before it reaches the market. Like Ford EcoSport, Mobilio will also be taken for public display across the country.

Mobilio, a car which made its first appearance at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, is built on Honda's popular Brio hatchback platform and will be offered in both petrol and diesel engines in the country.

The petrol model of the car will pack 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol motor, which can churn out a power of 117bhp, and the diesel variant will come with 98bhp, 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit, which powers Honda's popular City and Amaze. The engine will come mated to a five-speed manual and CVT gearbox. While the diesel model of MPV Mobilio is expected to deliver 26 kmpl, the petrol version is likely to give 18 kmpl.

The company started the trial production of the vehicle at their Greater Noida plant earlier last month, and the actual production of Mobilio will commence from this month (June). The MPV, which is already on sale in Indonesia, will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy and Nissan Evalia in India.
Honda is likely to price its new MPV in the ₹6 lakh to ₹8.50 lakh (ex-showroom) range. Honda India is expected to commence the bookings for the Mobilio by the end of June.

There are also rumours that the India-made Mobilio will also be exported to neighboring countries like Nepal. The company is planning to double the export of vehicles to other countries during this financial year.

Honda, which is riding high on the success of Amaze and City, looks confident with upcoming Mobilio MPV too. Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has reported a growth of 17.8 percent in its domestic sales for the month of May. The company sold 13,362 units in May 2014, as against the 11,342 units in May 2013.
Besides this, a total of 518 units have also been exported in May.

Rendering – 2015 Honda Jazz Twist (Not for North America)

The new generation Honda Jazz (Honda Fit overseas) was launched in the Brazilian market last month in four variants. The locally manufactured premium hatchback, in the last generation, came with the ‘Twist’ variant, a Jazz with an outdoor-style body pack, strictly reserved for the Brazilian market.

The Fit Twist, launched at the 2012 Sao Paulo Motor Show was Honda’s response to the Hyundai HB20X. Hatchbacks that pretend to be crossovers are very common in Brazil – the Etios Cross’s debut market was Brazil – and contenders for this niche segment include the VW CrossFox and Gol Rallye.

According to recent reports coming from Brazil, Honda will extend the soft-crossover proposal in Brazil even with the new generation and Noticias Automotivas has a rendering of it.

Changes to the car include a new grille, darkened, heavily designed bumper and a silver faux skid plate. New skirts, wheels, side sills, mirror caps and roof rails round up the exterior changes.

Complementing these changes, the previous generation model had redesigned lighting, new interior upholstery and chrome highlights on the aircon vents and handbrake lever.

The Twist will mechanically stay unaltered, using the 1.5L i-VTEC Flex engine delivering 116 hp, with a choice of 7-speed CVT with paddle shifters.

Since the discontinuation of the Jazz in India, the new breed of SUV-style hatchback versions have populated the Indian market, that would tempt Honda to conduct feasibility studies for the Twist variant when the Jazz goes on sale early next year.

Honda India: Honda's Sub-Compact SUV Effort - The Vision XS-1?

There's no denying that the sub-compact SUV segment is one of the fastest growing category in the Indian car space today. That's why all the major automakers have fast-tracked their plans to launch their respective products in the segment. Honda Cars India, too, is planning to launch a sub-compact SUV in the market - which was earlier rumoured to be the Vezel - but Honda clearly stated that the Vezel would be an expensive product to develop and would not meet the cost restrictions.

At the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, Honda revealed the Vison XS-1 Concept which further created confusion as Honda stayed tight-lipped on the crucial question - whether this will be the company's sub-compact SUV for India? Our sources tell us that Honda is working on a new product, based on the Brio platform, on which the Amaze and Mobilio, too, are built.

I think the need of the hour is a product that is compact, good looking and affordable. The Vezel, being a more premium product, will cost around Rs. 13-15 lakh, thus will fall in the segment of Duster, Mahindra XUV500 and Terrano, which doesn't have a market space like the sub-compact SUV segment would command. And if we look at all the products launched by Honda in the last one year, most of them are play in the mass-segment sections; also, the Mobilio and the next-gen Jazz will be sub-8 lakh products.

Can the Vision XS-1 Concept be Honda's sub-compact SUV?
The Vision XS-1 Concept shares its platform with the Brio, Amaze and the upcoming Mobilio. So, developing a product on that will be more economical and will also cut down efforts. This platform will also help Honda in keeping the product under 4-metre in size, which will enable it to enjoy excise duty benefits and also allow Honda to price it competitively.

The XS-1, however, is nowhere close to the production model and the end product will have design inspiration from the Vezel and the CR-V, as seen on the concept. As far as the engine options are concerned, it's only obvious that Honda will use the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel and 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol mills producing close to 100bhp and 85bhp respectively.

Spied: Honda Mobilio snapped at production line in India

Honda India will most likely launch the Mobilio MPV in the third quarter of 2014. The car had its global premiere at the Indonesian International Motor Show which was held in September last year, with the MPV making its Indian debut at the 2014 Auto Expo earlier this year. A spy picture from a blog suggests that Honda has started manufacturing the car at its Greater Noida plant. The car snapped is the V variant in diesel guise.

The Mobilio spied on the production line could very well be the world’s first diesel iteration of the MPV. The Mobilio has dimensions of 4386mmx1683mmx1603mm (LxWxH). This means that it won’t be a part of the under 4-metre group that is liable for excise duty benefits in India.

It is likely that Honda may plonk the powerful 118PS 1.5-litre i-VTEC or even the 88PS 1.2-litre engine in the Mobilio petrol. The 118PS motor will be for the enthusiasts while the smaller engine will be for those looking for high fuel efficiency. The diesel powerplant will be the tried and tested 100PS 1.5l i-DTEC which claims a fuel efficiency of around 25kmpl. The petrol variant will have a choice of five-speed manual and auto transmissions while the diesel may have a five-or six-speed manual. Expect the Mobilio to be reasonably spacious with a very low loading lip for the luggage.

The Mobilio squares off against the Maruti Ertiga and Chevrolet Enjoy and we are expecting Honda to price it very competitively.

Rendering – Japanese magazine illustrates the Brio-based crossover destined for India

Japanese car magazine Mag-X has illustrated the Honda Brio-based mini SUV that is expected to launch in India to draw battle lines over the urban SUV market that is dominated by the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster.

Japanese auto website Car Sensor reports that the B-Segment crossover, with a different type of styling, is “for the audience who cannot be covered by the Honda Vezel.”

Though the Honda Vezel is a global crossover and has confirmed plans to sell in China and USA (besides Japan, where it is already sold), the vehicle maybe too expensive or small for its price, in countries like India and Thailand that are price and space conscious. Honda has developed products like the Brio, Amaze and Mobilio to deliver these needs of South East Asia, instead of representing with their global compact vehicles.

To address the SUV sub-segment, the Brio platform is under re-engineering to accommodate a crossover top-hat. Until now no details have been available, with Car Sensor suggesting that a 1-liter three-cylinder direct injection turbo will be used on the car in certain markets. To compete strongly in India, the car would need the 1.5L Earth Dreams engine to deliver about 100 PS with over 25 kpl mileage.

The magazine expects the new crossover to appear in dealerships in 2017, but don’t take the report’s claim seriously as Honda test and develop cars shroud in complete secrecy, and have a relatively short time to market.

Mobilio, which made its debut at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014, has now been previewed on the company's India website, with the 'launching in a few months' tag. Built on Honda's popular Brio hatchback platform, the Mobilio is speculated to go into production in June 2014 at the company's Greater Noida plant and is expected to hit the domestic market between July and September. The car will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy and Nissan Evalia in the domestic market and is expected to fall in the price brackets of ₹6 lakh to ₹8.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

The MPV will be offered in both petrol and diesel engines in the country. The petrol model of the car will pack 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol motor, which can churn out a power of 117bhp, and the diesel variant will come with 98bhp, 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit, which powers Honda's popular City and Amaze. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual and CVT gearbox. While the diesel model of MPV Mobilio is expected to deliver 26 kmpl, the petrol version of the car is likely to give 18 kmpl.

Auto lovers in India are also waiting for the launch of 2014 Honda Jazz. Although there has been no word on the Jazz launch as of now, previous reports suggested that it will undergo production in July this year at the company's new Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. Under the hood, the petrol version of the Jazz is speculated to pack the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that powers Amaze and Brio, which can generate a power of 87bhp, with a torque of 110Nm at 4800rpm. The diesel Jazz is likely to pack a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel motor, which can pump 100PS of power and 200Nm torque.

In March, Honda India posted the highest ever monthly sales, recording 83.4 per cent increase in its domestic sales at 18,426 units. Honda sold 18,426 units in March, as against the 10,044 units in the corresponding month last year. In March, Honda sold 1,456 units of its small car Brio, while its Amaze and City offerings stood at 7,374 and 9,518 respectively.
