I have to say, this looks nice, a nice nod to the S2000 up front. It also has a normal rear door handle. I hope we get the 2.0L i-vtec engine, run it up to about 165hp, but I am going to guess we will get the 1.5L turbo, probably around 175hp.

The all-new 2019 Honda Passport's rugged exterior design and stance
is highlighted by standard 20-inch wheels, a matte-black grille,
floating roof design, aggressive wheel arches, increased ride height and
a tailgate design that emphasizes width.
Inside, Passport offers best-in-class passenger space (115.9 cu.-ft.)
and total interior volume (157.1 cu.-ft.) for carrying family, friends
and weekend adventure gear. Passport features a large (best-in-class 2.5
cu.-ft.) segmented underfloor cargo compartment for carrying dirty gear
or keeping valuables out of sight.
Passport will be offered in four trims: the well-appointed Sport,
upgraded EX-L, high-tech Touring, and the fully equipped Elite. All
models except the line-topping Elite can be configured with 2- or
all-wheel drive – all Elite trims come standard with all-wheel drive.
All trims will feature 20-inch alloy wheels and tires, the Honda
Sensing® suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technology, LED
headlights, fog lights, taillights and DRLs, Smart Start and Smart Entry
and three-zone automatic climate control. EX-L and higher trims utilize
Honda's latest Display Audio interface with an 8-inch touchscreen, a
physical volume knob and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration.
Additional exterior upgrades, depending on trim, include a power
tailgate with available hands-free operation, a one-touch tilt/slide
moonroof and heated auto-dimming and power folding side mirrors. Furthermore, the blind spot information system, rear cross traffic
monitor, and front and rear parking sensors are available driver
assistive technologies. Available premium features include second-row
sunshades, wireless phone charging, embedded Honda Satellite-Linked
Navigation System, 4G LTE in-vehicle Wi-Fi, premium audio, and
HondaLink® cloud-based services, including remote unlocking, concierge
services, stolen vehicle tracking and more.
Powertrain
All 2019 Honda Passport trims are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine
that makes 280 peak horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net),
placing Passport in the top of its class for standard horsepower in a
segment where some competitors offer less powerful 4-cylinder engines as
standard equipment. The Honda i-VTEC® V6 is mated to the
latest-generation of Honda's 9-speed automatic transmission (9AT) that
is among the most advanced in the class, offering smooth and responsive
power delivery.
At the heart of the robust all-weather and off-road driving
capabilities is Honda's available i-VTM4™ all-wheel drive system. Unlike
most competing systems, i-VTM4™ uses active torque vectoring to send up
to 70 percent of engine torque to the rear axle and 100 percent of that
torque to either the left or right rear wheels. This capability gives
Passport excellent handling in all conditions, such as rain-slicked or
snowy roads or sandy trails, while also contributing to more responsive
performance by overdriving the outside rear wheel in turns. In addition,
the Intelligent Traction Management (ITM) is standard on both the
front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive Passport. In all-wheel drive
applications, the four-mode ITM systems works in conjunction with
i-VTM4™, allowing drivers to customize powertrain performance for
different weather and terrain, including sand, snow and mud. In
front-wheel drive models, the system has two modes for normal and snow
conditions.
Tested in the world's harshest environments, including the sands of
Dubai, muddy country roads of Russia, and snowbound trails in Minnesota,
the combination of i-VTM4™ and Intelligent Traction Management make
Passport more capable off road than many unibody SUVs, giving drivers
the confidence to tackle not just wet or rainy conditions, but a variety
of harsh off-road terrains.
Passport is well equipped for towing, with 3,500-pound capacity on
front-wheel drive models and 5,000 pounds on all-wheel drive models when
both are equipped with the optional towing package. Passport is the
gateway to adventure being able to tow camping trailers, boats, or "toy"
haulers, over more rugged terrain. The standard multi-view rear-view
camera makes connecting to a trailer easier than ever with its
"overhead" option giving the driver a bird's eye view of the hitch and
trailer.
Exterior Design and Platform
Honda's most rugged light truck yet, Passport's expressive design
leaves no doubt of its adventure-seeking mission and is highlighted by
its higher ride height, standard 20-inch wheels, 245/50R all-weather
tires and sporty styling cues, including a matte black grille and
bumper, blackout headlights and black wheels. LED headlight accents,
gloss black trim, a "floating" C-pillar, and chrome exhaust finishers
hint at Passport's around-town sophistication. Trim-exclusive wheel
designs are available across the lineup, and Touring and Elite trims
offer upsized 265/45R20 tires as standard equipment.
Beyond good looks, Passport's design offers superior functionality as
well. Ground clearance is up 0.5 inches on front-wheel drive models and
1.1 inches on all-wheel drive models compared to Passport's three-row
sibling, Pilot, while its shorter overall length and shortened rear
overhang offer improved approach, departure and breakover angles,
suitable for more rugged terrain.
Passport's wider wheels and tires complement its athletic and sporty
stance and support both responsive around-town handling and increased
grip off-road. A ruggedly styled front end stands out on the road with
its scratch-resistant matte finish grill suited to the off-road
adventures Passport is designed for.
Passport is based on Honda's Global Light Truck platform and shares
much of its underlying structure with the three-row Pilot SUV and
Ridgeline pickup, including its highly rigid unibody construction. This
platform has a fully boxed floor that is sophisticated yet strong with a
four-wheel independent suspension, with MacPherson struts in front and a
multilink independent rear. The latest generation of Honda's
proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure,
provides outstanding frontal collision protection and collision
compatibility with larger and smaller vehicles.
Interior Design and Packaging
Passport's modern and sophisticated interior design offers ample
space for five people and provides class-leading passenger volume of
115.9 cu.-ft. and best-in-class total interior volume of 157.1 cu.-ft.
From Sport to Elite trims, Passport features high-quality interior
appointments including attractive and durable cloth on Sport or
perforated leather on EX-L, Touring and Elite trims, a blackout
headliner, and generous use of soft-touch surfaces on the dash and
doors.
Passport's interior also offers class-leading utility. Behind the
second row of seats is a cargo area generously sized for weekend camping
trips or excursions to the home improvement store, with 41.2 cu. ft. of
space, expandable to 77.9 cu. ft. with the second row folded flat,
which is more than enough to accommodate mountain bikes or a week's
worth of camping gear. From the cargo area, the second-row seatbacks
fold with the push of a button, and Passport's main cargo floor is
reversible between carpeted and easy-to-clean hard plastic surfaces.
Passport features class-leading underfloor storage, with 2.5 cu. ft. of
easily accessible compartmented storage, which can be accessorized with
removable washable bins, including a custom bin for storing the
available accessory trailer hitch receiver.
There's also plenty of space for small stuff. Passport offers
generous storage space for front seat passengers, including a huge
center console bin between the front seats with a rolling cover that
serves as a tray when closed. Additional storage is found in the doors
and ahead of the push-button gear selector.
Technology
Packed with available modern amenities such as an audio and
connectivity system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration
and a digital driver's meter, Passport delivers all the modern
technology that today's SUV buyers demand.
Passport Sport trim comes standard with a 215-watt audio system with a
5-inch display monitor and 6 speakers, plus a subwoofer. Passport EX-L,
Touring and Elite trims feature Honda's 8-inch Display Audio
touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone
integration and manual power/volume knob. The Display Audio system uses
gestures common to smartphones and tablets, such as swipe, tap and
pinch, to control the vehicle's audio system, display settings and other
advanced features. Intuitive and easy to use, with a simplified menu
structure, it also offers customizable shortcuts for commonly used
features and customizable app locations. Passport Touring and Elite
trims come with a 590-watt 10-speaker premium audio system.
Passport's instrument cluster uses a 7-inch Thin Film Transistor
(TFT) screen with a wide range of information content. In addition to
displaying typical vehicle functions such as vehicle speed and RPM, the
full-color digital meter includes a Multi-Information Display (MID) with
customizable features, such as audio system information, a detailed
trip computer, phone information, and turn-by-turn route guidance on
Passport models equipped with navigation. Drivers navigate the new TFT
using steering wheel controls designed for intuitive operation, such as Bluetooth® phone buttons that are more easily distinguished by touch.
Touring and Elite trims of Passport provide 4G LTE in-vehicle Wi-Fi
TCU that can supporting up to seven devices and a free 90-day/3GB trial
period AT&T data plan. The TCU is key to Passport's support of
numerous HondaLink® cloud-based services. Using an app, owners can keep
track of maintenance and even book appointments, remember their
Passport's location and numerous other functions.
Safety and Driver Assistance Technology
The Honda Sensing® suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive
technologies is standard on all 2019 Passport trims. Honda Sensing®
helps provide greater awareness of driving conditions around the
vehicle, in some cases helps drivers maintain lane position and, under
certain conditions slowing or even stopping the vehicle if it detects a
potential front collision. Honda Sensing® includes Collision Mitigation
Braking System™ (CMBS™) featuring Forward Collison Warning (FCW), Road
Departure Mitigation (RDM) including Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane
Keeping Assistance System (LKAS) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). The
new Passport was designed to provide a high level of active and passive

safety rating and an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK rating. All tested 2019 model-year Honda vehicles achieve an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score safety rating.
All Passport trims come equipped with a Multi-Angle Rearview Camera
with overhead "bird's eye" view, ideal for trailer hookups. Additional
available driver-assistive technologies include dynamic guidelines for
the rearview camera, blind spot Information system (EX-L, Touring and
Elite) with Rear Cross-Traffic Detection, and front and rear parking
sensors (Touring and Elite).
Accessories
A wide variety of Honda Genuine Accessories are designed for
Passport, including roof boxes of various sizes, a roof basket, and
roof-mounted bike, kayak and ski or snowboard racks. Inside, Passport
owners can weatherproof their cargo area with hard plastic covers for
the floor, sides, and seatbacks. The underfloor storage can be divided
with separate, removable and washable bins.
For those seeking a more sophisticated urban look, a variety of
cosmetic exterior items are available, such as a colored graphics
package, undercarriage welcome lights, and lighted door sills. From the
outset, Passport will be available with two accessory packages. The
Adventure Package adds running boards, a trailer hitch, fender flares

fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive vehicles with advanced safety
technologies sold through over 1,000 independent U.S. Honda dealers. The
Honda lineup includes the Fit, Civic, Insight, Accord and Clarity
series passenger cars, along with the HR-V, CR-V, Passport and Pilot
sport utility vehicles, the Ridgeline pickup and the Odyssey minivan.
Honda
has been producing automobiles in America for more than 36 years and
currently operates 19 major manufacturing facilities in North America.
In 2017, more than 90 percent of all Honda brand vehicles sold in the
U.S. were made in North America, using domestic and globally sourced

Honda’s CR-V is a triple threat:
it packs a host of high-tech equipment, impressive fuel economy, and
copious cargo space. As if that’s not enough, the CR-V also boasts
contemporary styling and engaging driving dynamics. It’s powered by a
base 184-hp inline-four or a more responsive 190-hp turbocharged
1.5-liter inline-four. A standard continuously variable automatic
transmission (CVT) pairs with front- or all-wheel drive. The CR-V’s
roster of talents earned it a spot on our inaugural 10Best Trucks and SUVs list. While the compact-crossover league is loaded with home-run hitters, the CR-V has the stats to be named MVP.
Completely redesigned and reengineered, the all-new CR-V received more
style, more space, and more technology. For the first time, Honda
offered it with a turbocharged engine. Further advancements included
available adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, and a
driver-attention monitor, among others. Inside, the CR-V became roomier
and featured upgraded materials such as a soft-touch dashboard and
exquisitely stitched seats. Infotainment additions included a
much-needed dedicated volume knob, available Apple CarPlay and Android
Auto, and optional dual rear-seat USB ports. Combined with sleeker and
sharper exterior styling, the CR-V was highly improved for 2017.
Trims and Options We Chose for 2017
The EX model is an excellent choice, as it offers upgraded tech and
creature comforts. For $2750 more than the base LX, it adds heated side
mirrors, automatic high-beams, remote start, smart entry and push-button
start, a power sunroof, and more. Other standard features include:
• 7.0-inch touchscreen HondaLink infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Heated front seats with 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat • Honda Sensing safety- and driver-assistance equipment
We think front-wheel drive is sufficient for most, but those living with
harsh winters or who simply must have all-wheel drive can add it for
$1300. The top-level Touring trim may be the ultimate CR-V, yet for
roughly $6000 less, the EX is one heckuva deal. We didn’t even stop in
the options aisle on our way to the checkout, as our well-equipped CR-V
EX totaled $27,735.
From
listening to the PR folks at Nissan, you get the impression that the
year 2016 really and truly is the year of the truck at the Japanese
company. And it’s true that the retooling of the Pathfinder and the
complete overhaul of the Armada over its previous incarnation, not to
mention the arrival of the second-generation, revamped TITAN, is proof
that Nissan is determined to offer a more comprehensive roster of
trucks.
The popularity of utility vehicles is far from being news
in 2016, and exhibit A from Nissan’s point of view is the Rogue, a
compact SUV which is has been nipping at the heels of the category’s
heavyweights (Ford’s Escape, the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4) for a
few years now. The popular crossover is a cornerstone vehicle for the
Japanese carmaker, and sits at the top of the manufacturer’s sales
rankings for Canada and the United States.
Nissan Canada recently
extended an invitation to members of the automotive press to experience a
first contact with the 2017 edition of the Rogue. The mid-life retool
carried out on the new version doesn’t represent any overturning of the
apple-cart – it’s more of an evolution than a revolution in comparison
with the 2016 model. That said, any opportunity to gain the attention of
its target market is a winner for Nissan.
A spiffier new Rogue The
new model is just now making its first appearances in dealerships. As
expected, its silhouette remains unchanged. The more curious and
eagle-eyed among Rogue fans will have to check out the front and rear
ends to notice any difference from the 2016 model.
The company’s
design team has repeated the recipe applied to other recent models
produced by the brand. The front grille’s “V” is more imposing, its
greater eminence giving the SUV a more aggressive front end.
The
front and rear lights have also been redesigned, as has the front
fender, which houses new fog lights. Taking a look at the SUV’s rear
end, it’s clear some work has been done on the rear position lights.
While remaining angular in shape, their darker shade gives them a
distinctive look.
Nissan also took things a step further by
adding an SL Platinum Reserve version which infuses some decidedly
luxury-car DNA. This edition features exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels
that quite nicely fill in the space under the wheel arches. Buyers of
this trim should however be prepared to pay a little extra for the
oversized tires to match.
Same tones of luxury inside Our
first contact with the 2017 Rogue began with the very top-of-the-line
version, an SL Platinum Reserve model equipped to the very hilt. From
the outside this version is quite appealing, with its big boots, chrome
elements and several colours, richer in tone and exclusive to the higher
trims of the new Rogue.
But what really sets the SL Platinum
Reserve model apart is its high-end interior finish. The
superior-quality tan-leather upholstery, not to mention the leatherette
panels on the dashboard, help enhance the refinement level in the
dark-hued cabin. And that’s not all, as Nissan’s designers also
succeeded in injecting a hint of sportiness into the inside of the Rogue
with for example a flattened steering wheel that is quite pleasant to
grip.
The soft front-row seats offer enough support to ensure
comfort on longer trips. The second row is a little less convincing in
that respect, although the option of advancing or receding the bench
while choosing the incline level does allow passengers more freedom to
maximize personal comfort. The manufacturer once again offers a third
row for 2017, at least for the SV model, but as is often the case with
this option, it is to be used on a need-to basis only! Please don’t even
think about forcing a larger-sized adult to suffer through several
hours in one of those seats – you may never be forgiven!
No hybrid for Canada In
the United States there is much excitement about the introduction of a
hybrid version of the 2017 Rogue, but don’t be looking for it up here –
it won’t be available in Canada. This is surely due largely to our much
smaller market, as well as to the relatively lower price of fuel which
currently favours sales of utility vehicles.
On the other hand,
there’s good news in the fact that Nissan’s current mechanical set-up
ensures Canadian consumers won’t suffer too much at the pump. The same
2.5L, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine that powered the 2016 is
back; it delivers 170 HP and 175 lb-ft of torque. Also returning in the
2017 Rogue is the CVT transmission, as is the part-time all-wheel drive
system. Take note, however, that a front-wheel drive option is available
on the entry model of the new Rogue.
At the wheel Apparent
right from the first few kilometres driven is the improvement in the
Rogue’s ride quietness, something Nissan had already confirmed it had
worked on correcting. In fact, Nissan’s rogue was already a strong
performer in this regard, most notably while at cruising speed when the
engine is not being taxed by the CVT unit.
Of course, that same
CVT brings the noise level up during acceleration, the driver’s foot on
the gas pedal being a major contributor to the decibel level in the
cabin. Meanwhile, though the vehicle’s mechanics may not win any prizes
for dynamism, any complaints drivers may have will likely dissipate when
it comes to time to tally up gas costs each month. The Rogue is a
highly fuel-efficient crossover.
The new 19-inch alloy wheels do
nothing to harm handling and manoeuvrability. But at the risk of
repeating myself, the Rogue remains a vehicle in search of a certain
spark. To benefit from a more responsive drive, you need to look
elsewhere. Steering is light, and the suspension calibrated for comfort
above all else.
Overall, the 2017 edition has changed for the
better, which if nothing else should to allow it to remain in the lead
pack in the segment. And right now, if you’re a carmaker, that small-SUV
category is where you want to be!
America's Best-Selling SUV gains more powerful turbo engine offering class-leading fuel efficiency
Honda Sensing™ technology now standard on EX and higher trims
New Display Audio featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™
More premium interior boasts larger cabin with best-in-class rear seat legroom and larger, more versatile cargo space
DETROIT – Honda has pulled the wraps off an all-new,
fifth-generation CR-V, America's best-selling SUV over the past 20
years. The completely redesigned and reengineered 2017 CR-V, going on
sale this winter, boasts bold new styling, a more premium interior, the
model's first-ever turbocharged engine and a host of new features and
technologies aimed at maintaining CR-V's status as the outright
benchmark in the highly popular compact SUV segment. American car buyers
have purchased nearly 4 million CR-Vs since its U.S. launch in 1997.
"The new Honda CR-V raises the bar in every imaginable way,
delivering more performance, space and premium content together with
higher fuel economy ratings and value than ever before," said Jeff
Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division.
"Customers are going to love what they see and what they experience
behind the wheel of this new CR-V."
Bold and Sophisticated New Design The new CR-V
styling heads in a fresh new direction with an aggressive attitude,
thanks to crisp and sharp front-end design elements, aggressive stylized
headlights surrounded by a wing-shaped LED DRL array on all trims, and
wide, muscular fenders. The long hood, longer wheelbase, short rear
overhang and dual exhausts give the new CR-V a more sophisticated and
athletic presence.
The CR-V's new windswept front end appearance includes signature
Honda LED headlights (Touring trim), a Honda-first Active Shutter Grille
that lowers aerodynamic drag, uprated aluminum alloy wheels (sizes 17
to 18 inches depending on trim) and narrower A-pillars for improved
visibility. Adding convenience is a Honda-first available Hands-Free
Access Power Tailgate, which allows opening and closing the tailgate
with a foot activated sensor under the rear of the vehicle. Available
Auto High Beam with High Beam Support (AHB) headlights, chrome
garnishes, rain-sensing windshield wipers, roof rails and numerous
Genuine Honda Accessories also expand beauty, convenience and
functionality.
New Powertrain and Chassis Technology The 2017
CR-V in EX and higher trims will feature CR-V's first ever turbocharged
engine, a more powerful and fuel-efficient 1.5-liter DOHC,
direct-injected and turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder powerplant rated at
190 horsepower (SAE net) and delivering incredibly refined and
responsive performance across the engine's full operating range.
Combined with the CR-V's more aerodynamic body, the new turbocharged
powerplant will garner the highest EPA fuel economy ratings in the
compact SUV class. CR-V LX trims will be powered by a 2.4-liter DOHC,
direct-injected i-VTECÔ engine, and both engines will be mated
to a smooth shifting and sporty continuously variable transmission (CVT)
with Honda G-Shift control logic. Detailed specifications, including
EPA ratings, will be provided closer to launch.
The all-new body and chassis design in the 2017 CR-V provides more
agile and confident handling, greater refinement, additional ground
clearance and superior overall versatility. Its front MacPherson strut
and rear multi-link suspension utilize specially tuned low-friction
dampers, with both FWD and AWD models including tubular front and solid
rear stabilizer bars that promote quick turn-in and flatter cornering.
Dual-pinion, variable ratio Electric Power Steering (EPS) also
contributes to the CR-V's direct and satisfying steering feel.
More Premium, Spacious and Technologically Advanced Interior
The 2017 CR-V also raises the bar for interior refinement, utility and
premium features in the compact SUV class. The more spacious cabin, with
top-in-class interior space and the best rear seat legroom in its
class, features upgraded materials throughout, including a new
soft-touch instrument panel and more intricately stitched seats. A color
TFT driver information interface (DII) center meter display adds to the
handsome new design aesthetic.
The CR-V offers the latest in-vehicle connectivity and audio
performance with a new generation of advanced technologies. Available
features include a 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio interface with
Android operating system that now features a physical volume knob as
well as an available new Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™
developed in cooperation with the experts at Garmin®. The CR-V 's
Display Audio system is compatible with the Apple CarPlay™ and Android
Auto™ platforms, giving customers seamless integration of key smartphone
features and functions, including smartphone-powered GPS navigation and
voice-controlled search capabilities.
Some of the key new comfort and convenience features available on the
2017 Honda CR-V include remote engine start, dual-zone climate
controls, heated side mirrors, an Electric Parking Brake (EPB), rear USB
charging ports, front passenger seat with 4-way power adjustment and
driver's seat with 8-way power adjustment and 4-way power lumbar support
and heated front seats.
Advanced Safety and Driver-Assistive Technology
The refreshed 2015 CR-V debuted the Honda Sensing suite of advanced
safety and driver-assistive technologies, helping it capture the 2015 Motor Trend
Sport Utility of the Year honors. The 2017 CR-V further expands the
application of Honda Sensing as standard equipment on EX and higher
trims, expected to account for upwards of 75 percent of CR-V sales.
Honda Sensing includes Collision Mitigation Braking (CMBS) with
Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and pedestrian sensing capability, Road
Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive
Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed follow and Lane Keeping Assist
(LKAS). Additional new driver-assistive technologies include the
available Blind Spot Information (BSI), Rear Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM)
and Auto High Beam (HSS) headlights.
Utilizing Honda's next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™
(ACE™) body structure, the 2017 CR-V targets the highest available
collision safety ratings, including an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score
from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a TOP SAFETY PICK+
rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS),
including a SUPERIOR rating for frontal crash prevention when equipped
with Honda Sensing.
The 2017 Honda CR-V will be produced at three plants in North America
– in East Liberty, Ohio; Alliston, Ontario, Canada; and, for the first
time, in Greensburg, Indiana using domestic and globally sourced parts.
Engines for the new CR-V will be manufactured in Anna, Ohio and in
Alliston, Ontario, with the CVT being produced in Russells Point, Ohio.

Family-Friendly Utility
The Pilot builds on its reputation for interior space, versatility
and utility with comfortable seating for up to eight passengers and a
cargo area that can hold an 82-quart cooler without compromising
third-row seating capability. Third-row entry and exit is easy and
intuitive courtesy of the available one-touch second-row seat on EX-L
and above models, and large third-row entryway.
The Pilot's center console features a cavernous storage compartment
capable of accommodating items as large as a full-size iPad or a purse.
And with its seamless cover in the closed position, the console provides
a convenient, non-slip surface for items that the driver or front
passenger may need close at hand.
Powertrain
The 2017 Pilot delivers refined, powerful and fuel-efficient performance courtesy of its 3.5-liter, direct-injected i-VTEC®
V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™) cylinder
deactivation technology producing peak output of 280 horsepower and 262
lb.-ft. of torque.3 The engine is matched to a choice of two
advanced transmissions – a 6-speed automatic transmission or, on upper
trims, a 9-speed automatic transmission – both delivering refined,
responsive and fuel-efficient performance.
These powertrains combine with a light yet rigid unit-body structure
and aerodynamically efficient body and chassis designs that result in
class-leading EPA fuel economy ratings topping out at 20/27/23 mpg
(city/highway/combined) for two-wheel-drive models and 19/26/22 mpg for
all-wheel-drive models.2
Intelligent Variable Torque Management (i-VTM4™) AWD System
The Pilot's available Intelligent VTM4 (i-VTM4) is the most
sophisticated and technologically advanced all-wheel-drive system
offered in a mainstream, three-row SUV. This entirely more capable
system progressively distributes optimum torque between the front and
rear axles and dynamically distributes engine torque between the left
and right rear wheels. Benefits include superior all-weather handling
and neutral, accurate steering under power that is more effective than
front-drive, rear-drive or conventional all-wheel-drive systems.
Intelligent Traction Management
All Pilots feature a button-operated Intelligent Terrain Management
System that offers different operating modes, for the AWD: Normal, Snow,
Mud and Sand; and for the FWD: Normal and Snow. Developed, tuned and
tested in challenging locations in the U.S. and around the world –
including Imperial Dunes "Glamis", California; Moscow, Russia; and
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – the Intelligent Traction Management system
allows the driver to select the operating mode that best suits the
driving conditions by simply pushing a button on the vehicle's center
console. Based on the setting selected, the system adjusts the
drive-by-wire map, transmission shift map, Vehicle Stability Assist™ and
i-VTM4 torque distribution for AWD-equipped models for optimal
performance in a variety of road or surface conditions.
Advanced Safety and Assistive Performance
In keeping with Honda's commitment to safety and driver convenience,
the Pilot is available with Honda Sensing™, a suite of technologies
designed to expand the driver's situational awareness while sensing and
responding to potential road hazards, including other vehicles, road
obstacles and even pedestrians, even to the point of mitigating the
possibility or severity of a collision. The Pilot includes a standard
Multi-Angle Rearview Camera and an available suite of safety and driver
assistive technologies that includes LaneWatch™ display, a blind spot
information system, Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), Lane
Departure Warning (LDW), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping
Assist System (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation
(RDM) system and Rear Cross Traffic Monitor.
The 2017 Pilot earned top safety ratings from the National Highway
and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including a 5-Star Overall
Vehicle Score, and is expected to earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including a GOOD rating
in all crash modes and a SUPERIOR rating for front crash prevention. The
Pilot incorporates Honda's next generation Advanced Compatibility
Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, designed to efficiently absorb and
disperse the energy from a frontal collision, along with
ultra-high-strength door rings designed to help better protect
occupants.
Standard safety and driver-assistive features include four-channel
anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Brake Assist and Hill Start Assist; Vehicle
Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with Traction Control; dual-stage,
multiple-threshold front airbags, driver and front passenger side
airbags and side-curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions; and
a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with real-time display of
individual tire pressures.

Next-generation Honda CR-V will be bigger than current model, and is set to be pitched against the Land Rover Discovery Sport
Honda’s largest European SUV
is about to become even bigger. The fifth-generation CR-V will be based
on a new platform and is set to be powered by a range of new engines.
The focus will be on a more upmarket experience when the new SUV arrives
in UK showrooms in 2018, and our exclusive images preview how it could
look.
Prototypes have already been spied testing in the US and despite the heavy disguise, one thing is clear; the CR-V will significantly grow in size. With the Jazz-based HR-V
muscling into Honda’s SUV line-up, the Japanese maker is bulking up the
larger CR-V and possibly fitting a third row of seats for the first
time. That means a new batch of rivals, including the Nissan X-Trail, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Kia Sorento.
The CR-V will share a chassis with the new Civic hatch,
which arrives in dealers next February. The wheelbase on the all-new
SUV could increase by around 80mm over the existing car’s, with overall
length boosted by 50mm. Proportionally, this will bring it closer in
line with the X-Trail.
The CR-V was North America’s best-selling SUV last year, with more
than 345,000 cars finding homes. Honda is hoping a mild exterior refresh
will also help widen the model’s appeal in the UK, where between 15,000
and 20,000 models sell annually.
Our spy shots show how the trademark ‘Solid Wing Face’ grille merges
with the lights to ensure the nose retains Honda’s family DNA. It’s most
evident in the narrower yet longer LED headlamps. As our images show,
the rear is dominated by bolder, L-shaped lights that stretch wider on
to the bootlid.
Changes will also extend to the engine range. Honda has recently
confirmed new 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 1.5 i-VTEC turbos, plus an
updated 1.6-litre diesel for the Civic, and it’s likely the new CR-V
will benefit from the two larger units. There should also be a revised
version of the 2.0-litre petrol with Honda’s latest technology. There’s
no word on a plug-in, but with ever-tightening emissions regulations, a hybrid is a real possibility.
Four-wheel drive will remain an option, as will the nine-speed
automatic transmission, which is unashamedly geared towards economy.
Standard models will be front-wheel drive and come with a six-speed
manual gearbox, however.
Improvements in tech and quality
will also be on the agenda. Honda had set ambitious targets to sell six
million cars annually by 2017, yet new CEO Takahiro Hachigo put the
brakes on his predecessor’s target to focus on raising quality. Expect
plusher materials and extra sound-deadening in the CR-V, plus a more
modern infotainment system with a suite of smartphone-integration apps.
The new Honda will be built alongside the HR-V in Japan, launching in
the US towards the end of 2017. We can expect to see it in UK showrooms
the following year.
Another look at what the next generation Honda CRV is probably going to look like. Last month a camo'd test mule was spotted and the front end was pretty easy to see, this rendering looks to be pretty accurate.
by Aravind Jayachandran of www.indianautosblog.com
Will offer a third row seating option for the first time, according to reports.
Based on spyshots of the pre-production prototype, IAB’s rendering artist, Shoeb R Kalania, has created a mockup of the next generation 2017 Honda CR-V.
The next CR-V will draw cues from the tenth generation Honda Civic and
the current CR-V, as seen in the trapezoidal grille flanked by sleek
LED headlamps. The bumper has also been redesigned with more sculpted
features and larger intakes for a sportier look.
The side profile
hasn’t drastically changed. The overall greenhouse, even in the next gen
model, is still very much current CR-V-like. The rear-end gets sporty
new L-shaped taillights that look similar to the new Civic and the Acura Concept SUV-X. As for the interior, there are no details or images at the moment, although reports suggest that a three-row version could be offered for the first time in select markets.
The next-gen Honda CR-V will be ride on the tenth-gen Honda Civic’s
platform. Other than i-VTEC naturally aspirated engines, Honda will also
offer all new turbocharged petrol engines as well as a diesel-powered
option, with displacements between 1.5- to 2.4-litre. There will also be
an option of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with electric motor.
Honda's supremely popular crossover grows a bit and adopts a slightly less minivan-like look.
By JOSEPH CAPPARELLA
What It Is: The fifth generation of Honda’s supremely popular CR-V crossover, likely based on the new platform that underpins the recently redesigned Honda Civic.
The new CR-V is rumored to grow a bit compared with the current model,
with the possible addition of an optional third-row seat to help bridge
the gap between it and the significantly larger Pilot.
The CR-V also looks to adopt a sportier and more upscale look based on
these spy photos, which show a larger, more aggressive front grille
along with a longer hood and a less minivan-like stance. The CR-V’s
signature vertical taillights are clearly visible, and the headlights
look like they’re taken directly from an Acura. We can’t see much of the
crossover’s interior, but practicality and spaciousness will surely
remain a priority.
Why It Matters: The CR-V has sat atop the growing
compact-crossover sales heap for the past several years, but its lead is
eroding as new competitors arrive with more-advanced technology
features and improved driving dynamics. The Ford Escape and the Toyota RAV4,
for instance, are ahead of the CR-V in the sales race so far in 2016.
With this redesigned CR-V, Honda surely will be looking to take back its
crown, with class-leading fuel-economy figures, tech offerings,
interior space, and—if the new Civic’s great chassis is any
indication—driving dynamics. It’ll have to beat the Mazda CX-5, our current favorite among small crossovers, in that regard.
Platform: The new Honda Civic’s modular chassis, which will also
underpin the next-generation Accord sedan. The current CR-V’s 103.1-inch
wheelbase will likely grow, possibly to match the 2016 Civic sedan’s
106.3-inch wheelbase. Also expect changes to the Civic’s basic
architecture to accommodate mechanicals for the all-wheel-drive system
that will be optional for the CR-V.
Powertrain: With Honda’s push into turbocharged technology, the
Civic’s new 174-hp 1.5-liter turbo four will probably be the CR-V’s
standard engine. It may be tuned for more emphasis on low-rpm torque for
use in the heavier CR-V (the current model’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder
makes 185 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque). Although the Civic lineup will
soon offer a six-speed manual paired with this engine, a continuously
variable automatic transmission will likely be the only choice for the
CR-V. As before, front-wheel drive will be standard with all-wheel drive
available as an option.
Competition: Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, Chevrolet Equinox, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester
Estimated Arrival and Price: Look for the new CR-V to arrive sometime in 2017 as a 2018 model. Pricing shouldn’t change much compared with the current CR-V,
which starts at $24,645 for a FWD LX and ranges up to $34,295 for a
loaded, AWD Touring model, although the possible third-row option could
drive the stickers higher for those packages that include it.
