When will Honda Hybridize the HR-V for North America?

 

There is demand for the HR-V to have a Hybrid variant available in North America, and it feels like it's only a matter of time before Honda has that as a offering.  With the current HR-V having just been redesigned for 2023 and Honda has a typical 5yrs between redesigning the vehicle, my guess is that the 2028 Honda HR-V will be the year for the Hybrid powertrain to come to Canada and the US.

2026 Honda FIT/Jazz getting a Minor Model Change....China Only....Not for North America

It was a sad day when Honda decided to discontinue the Honda Fit for North America, it truly showcased Honda's engineering with how the Magic Seats worked and how Honda could continue to make a 'small car outside, big car inside'.  No plans to bring the car back to North America.

2026 Honda Prelude....Finally!

 

I absolutely love what they did to the back end of this car, love the fender flares and the aggressive stance.  Would have loved if they had a manual transmission option (Honda makes one of the best manual transmissions out there, such a short throw), but I will learn to love the S+ mode.

Honda Teases All-New HR-V for North America

I have to say, this looks nice, a nice nod to the S2000 up front. It also has a normal rear door handle.  I hope we get the 2.0L i-vtec engine, run it up to about 165hp, but I am going to guess we will get the 1.5L turbo, probably around 175hp.

Next Generation Honda CR-V Patent Pictures?

 

Hmm, could this be the 2022/23 Honda CR-V or is it the Honda Breeze?  Only time will tell as we are getting pretty close to when we should be able to see this car in the flesh.

Honda's 2020 New York International Auto show exhibit will feature the world debut of its refreshed 2021 Odyssey, the retail best-selling minivan in America ten years running. The 2021 version of Honda's "Ultimate Family Vehicle" gets numerous upgrades to styling, technology and safety features including an upgraded suite of Honda Sensing® safety and driver-assistive technologies for all grades, and an innovative industry-first Rear-Seat Reminder system integrated with the vehicle's CabinWatch® rear-seat camera system.

Major upgrades to the 2021 Honda Odyssey include more powerful and efficient LED headlights, a redesigned blackout grille topped by a chrome strip, and a redesigned lower front facia and fog light housings. Autoblog: 1997 Honda Civic Type R EK9 goes cyberpunk for Tokyo Auto Salon

For this year's Tokyo Auto Salon, Honda didn't just bring upgraded versions of its latest models, but also some examples of its past creations, too. One of the headlining vehicles was a classy white-over-red S2000. But a much more extreme model was the 1997 Honda Civic Type R EK9 on display.

It's official name is the Honda Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser 2020. Basically, it's what Honda imagines the old hatchback would look like if it had been designed in a cyberpunk universe. The basic shape has been given some updating with more creased and angular grille openings and side mirrors. They're contrasted by the circular holes in the grille mesh. The front splitter and side skirts give it a more aggressive stance. But the most striking changes are the lights. Most of the headlight and taillight area is blocked off in the same color as the body, leaving a thin, LED-lit line. It's a modern look that still evokes the shape of the original car. At the back, the lights are augmented by a wide black bar that spans the hatch. In the middle is an illuminated 1997 Civic logo.

Honda makes no mention of mechanical changes. The original Type R had a fairly stout powertrain to begin with, making 182 horsepower and with a redline of 8,400 rpm. It also picked up larger brakes, stiffer suspension, limited-slip differential, stickier tires and lost weight to make it faster.

Honda headed to 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon with 5-car line up

A lifted and rugged Honda Civic? A retro racer S660? Honda sure is planning to showcase a lot of quirky customized vehicles at the upcoming 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon.
To be specific, Honda Access has announced that they will be exhibiting five new unique vehicles during the customized auto show in January. All of them being modified version of vehicles currently offered by Honda in Japan.

For the time being, Honda has only released teaser photos of these vehicles with not much details on each model. That said, do expect full details on each unit to be released once the vehicles makes their global debut during the Tokyo Auto Salon.
Out of the five, one of the vehicles which stood out the most is the Civic Versatilist. Based on the press release, it is essentially a Civic Hatchback that has been lifted and given a more rugged look. Translating the text, it says that the modification and kit adds SUV likeness to the Civic but still retaining a more stylish sedan look.

Meanwhile, the Modulo Neo Classical Racer builds on the already retro-looking Honda S660 Neo Classic introduced earlier this year. It is said to combine the Neo Classic's sporty aspect along with Modulo's fine tuning. Modulo's modification adds wider fenders, a new set of wheels and a more aggressive looking front end akin to racers of the past.

Continuing their line up of cute looking vehicles, Honda Access will also be debuting the Well Concept (based on a StepWGN) and the Trip Van (based on an N-Van +Style Fun Turbo). The former is said to represent a family car of the future, which will also act like a family member. Meanwhile, the Trip Van is said to take inspiration from surfing and other hobbies.

Rounding up Honda Access display is the Fit Elegant Color Collection. Known locally as the Jazz, it is fitted with a Modulo kit but features unique paint combinations which ladies will find cute and attractive.
All five models are set to debut at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon which opens on January 11 at the Makuhari Messe in Japan.

Honda Has Developed a Completely New EV Battery

When it comes to the relatively new domain of electric mobility and the technologies that surround it, question marks are common, uncertainty the only certainty. And one of the big unknowns concerns the type of battery that will be used in electric cars of the future. Enter Honda and its possible solution to longstanding problems to do with range, cost, safety and environmental impact.

 

A team of scientists at Honda Research, working in collaboration with the California Institute of Technology and NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, have completed development of a new type of battery using room-temperature fluoride-ion technology. Up until now, these types of batteries could only be used when at a temperature of 300 F (or 149 Celsius) or above.

What are the advantages of using a fluoride-ion as opposed to a lithium-ion battery, you ask? There are two main benefits, according to Dr. Christopher Brooks, the head of Honda Research.

"Fluoride-ion batteries offer a promising new battery chemistry with up to ten times more energy density than currently available Lithium batteries. Unlike Li-ion batteries, FIBs do not pose a safety risk due to overheating, and obtaining the source materials for FIBs creates considerably less environmental impact than the extraction process for lithium and cobalt."

The potential safety and environmental benefits make the technology worth exploring.

Much works needs to be done before the new battery can be put to widespread use, of course, but Honda says that fluoride-ion batteries could well be the future of electric-car battery systems, not to mention any other products that require batteries.
