Honda Accord Hybrid named Canadian green car of the year

Chosen by a panel of 20 Canadian automotive journalists, Honda’s hybrid Accord sedan bested five other green category winners, including the Nissan LEAF and the Mazda3, for the 2014 Canadian Green Car award.

The cars were judged on their fuel economy, emissions and price, as well as the judges’ subjective opinions on driving experience, value and green qualities and environmental benefits.

The award, now in its second year, was presented today by David Miller, President and CEO of WWF-Canada, at the Green Living Show in Toronto. The Ford Fusion Hybrid won last year.

The Accord tied for the hybrid category with the Volkswagen Jetta Turbo hybrid. The nominated cars are all widely available in Canada. The category winners are:
  • Battery-Electric/Zero Emission: Nissan LEAF
  • Plug-in Hybrid: Ford C-MAX Energi
  • Full Hybrid: (Tie) Honda Accord Hybrid and Volkswagen Jetta Turbo Hybrid
  • Efficient Gasoline or Diesel: Mazda3 2.0-litre
  • Internal Combustion Efficient Three-Row Family Vehicle: Mazda5
