Awesome news!
We are very, very happy to be able to give you the news that the
Nissan GT-R’s second generation has received the green light. This is
because previous reports indicated
that the future of the model was uncertain and we just couldn’t stand
seeing Godzilla in this situation after the same thing happened to the Evo.
The current generation of the GT-R was the first one to be built from
the ground-up as a full-throttle supercar and it seems that we’ll also
be getting a second one. However, this was scheduled to arrive in 2015,
but it will be postponed to 2018. The info comes from Inside Line, which
recently visited Nissan’s R&D center in Atsugi, Japan.
One strong reason for the delay is that the chief engineer for the GT-R,
Kazutoshi Mizuno, has been absent for a while due to health issues, but
now he’s back and he’s determined to complete the development of the
second GT-R. This could use hybrid technology, as Nissan is currenlty
paying close attention to the upcoming Acura NSX, which will use
petrol-electric power and is rumored to be abvle to lap the Nurburgring
faster than Godzilla.
Until the second generation of the GT-R arrives, we must look into the
short-term development of the car - the GT-R will receive important
upgrades at the end of next year. These will allow it to compete with
one of its closest rivals, the Porsche 911 Turbo, whose new 991
generation should be released by then.
