New Nissan 370Z on way

Powerful four-cylinder turbo to combine with lower weight for the next Nissan 370Z

The next Nissan Z-car will be lighter and smaller than the current 370Z, as Nissan seeks to make its flagship coupe more efficient and better to drive.

Nissan design boss Shiro Nakamura has been reported as saying the next-generation Z-car will have to be leaner in order to appeal to a wider range of buyers.

The new model is expected to drop its 3.7-litre V6 engine in favour of a powerful turbocharged four-cylinder. This, combined with lower weight, would give similar performance – 0-60mph in around six seconds – but greater efficiency, with lower CO2 emissions.

Nakamura has also been reported as saying that work has already started on a concept version of the new Z-car, and although no date has been specified, it could appear at a major motor show in 2014.

There had been speculation that Nissan would produce a replacement for the 200SX – in the shape of another coupe that would rival the Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ. However, with the Z-car going leaner and smaller, it will occupy this space in the range.

Removing the V-6 has just caused me to change my mind for a 370Z!!! Keep the V-6 for the 370Z and bring back the 240 SX!! Please do not ruin what is already perfect when it comes to the 370Z!
