Honda Civic celebrates 15 years as Canada’s best-selling car

With sales of 64,962 units in 2012, the Honda Civic outsold its closest competitor by 14,012 units to retain its position as Canada’s best-selling passenger car for the 15th consecutive year, according to Honda Canada.

The vehicle maker noted that this feat is a testament to the durability, quality and reliability that Canadians have come to expect from Honda, and the balance of safety, fuel efficiency and fun-to-drive attributes that the vehicles deliver year after year.

“Fifteen years represents something very special to us,” said Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president of Honda Canada, in a statement. “We truly value the trust that our customers put in us when they buy a Civic or any Honda product. Buying a car is a big decision and we’re thankful for the opportunity to be part of the lives of so many Canadians every year.”

Since 1973, more than 3.6 million Honda Civics have been manufactured by Canadians at Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Ont. and more than 1.7 million of the vehicles have been parked in driveways across the country over the years.

During its tenure as Canada’s best-selling passenger car, Civic’s 6th, 7th and 8th generations have all contributed to the iconic brand, including the introduction of the Si Coupe and Hybrid models, numerous car-of-the-year awards and technologies such as the introduction of i-VTEC® engines, Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure and the IMA hybrid system, according to Honda Canada.

The company added that its commitment to constantly improve the Civic culminates in the new 2013 Civic, which is now available in Canadian dealerships and features numerous improvements including a restyled exterior (sedan only), more premium interior styling, a quieter cabin, increased safety and fuel efficiency, and a more fun-to-drive feel.
