MARYSVILLE, Ohio -
Honda North America, which is headquartered in Marysville, will be increasing production.
Production of the Acura ILX sedan is moving from Greensburg, Indiana to Marysville.
Nationally, Hondas make up about 17 percent of car sales; but in Union County, that percentage is much higher. Just drive through a parking lot and look for the "H" on the back of any car or van.
"Marysville is Honda, basically,” said Andy Morse, a Sales Manager with Honda of Marysville. “I don't know what else to say about that, there's a lot of support for that I mean you've drove through the parking lots you've seen that over half the cars are Hondas."
In the past year, dozens of top executives from Honda's California operation were transferred to Marysville and there is construction going on right now for more executive operations.
This latest news, that another line will be manufactured in Marysville is another example of the relationship between one area and one company.
"Honda continues to invest and reinvest,” said Eric Phillips with the Union County Chamber of Commerce. In the past year, Honda invested more than $100 million. We expect Honda to continue to grow and that's something that's good for our region."
That's not to say there aren't problems like there are in any relationship.
In 2012, there were 172,000 recalls. Last year, it was announced that new workers would not enjoy some of the same benefits as outgoing retirees.
But overall, the relationship between Union County, which produces more cars than any other county in the state; and Honda continues to become stronger.
"All kinds of suppliers have located there, there's a logistics company that are located there, and I don't know it's been a great benefit to the greater Columbus area not just to Marysville itself," said John McElroy, a Detroit Auto Analyst with Autoline.
It is a relationship that spills beyond Union County.
Of the top Honda dealers in the Midwest, a six state area, the top four are in Central Ohio.
