It's been another month of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla trading blows over the best-selling compact sedan title. After being beaten by the Toyota Corolla last month, the Honda Civic came out on top in October 2013's Compact Auto Sales with 27,328 sold, easily beating the Corolla
The best the Toyota Corolla could muster was a still-impressive 23,637 in sales last month, easily putting it in second place for October. The rest of the compact segment didn't necessarily fair as well as the Civic or Corolla. Third place went to the Chevrolet Cruze, with 16,087 sold – a 15.9-percent drop versus October of last year. The fourth place Ford Focus also had a big dip in sales, with just 15,108 sold last month. It's worth noting that the Cruze has also overtaken the Focus in year-to-date sales, though the Focus theoretically has time to make up the 8100-unit gap
Coming in fifth place was the Hyundai Elantra, which fell from last month's third place spot. Hyundai sold 14,876 Elantras last month. While Hyundai at least posted a sales gain versus October of last year, the sixth-place Volkswagen Jetta lineup saw a big drop; VW sold just 11,710 Jetta Sedan and Sportwagens last month, a 13.1-percent decrease. The Nissan Sentra came in seventh place with 8399 sold, while the Mazda3 finished just behind it, with 7674 sold. The top 10 was rounded out by the Dodge Dart (5617 sold) and the Subaru Impreza/WRX (4923 sold). Bringing up the rear was the Kia Forte with 4706 in sales, and the Volkswagen Golf, with 2249 sold.
