A couple of days more, we will see the global unveiling of the production version of the Honda
Urban SUV concept at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. According to some media
reports, the compact SUV will be named as the CR-U. However, nothing
has been confirmed yet, but the CR-U name certainly make sense for the
Urban SUV. The patent images of the vehicle have already been leaked on
the web.
Based on the 2014 Honda Jazz platform, the compact SUV will also make
its way to the Indian car market in 2015. The mini SUV source most of
its styling cues from the concept showcased earlier this year. The
appealing body design will feature curves, low roofline and a broader
stance. It will be more than 4-metre in length, but will be smaller than
the company's flagship SUV CR-V.
Internationally, the Urban SUV is expected to share its engine spec
from the Jazz, and is also likely to get the Civic's 1.6-litre diesel
engine. For Indian buyers, the CR-U will share its engine and
transmission options with the next generation Honda Jazz. So, it will be
powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and a 1.5-litre i-DTEc
diesel engine.
The production version of the Mini SUV will be launched in Japan first in 2013, followed by North America, Europe and then India.
In our country, it will compete against the likes of Nissan Terrano and
Renault Duster, and is expected to be priced around Rs. 9-10 lakh. ($25,000 - $30,000 for Canada).
