2014, The Year of the Fully Redesigned Honda Ridgeline

Just spoke to a reliable source at Honda Canada, no word on a 2013 full model change as I was expecting, however it is slated for the 2014 model year. I have not seen any sketches or 'leaked spyshots' of any proposed redesigns but have been affirmed that the Honda Ridgeline is still on.

The sooner..the better...Have had an 06 since new...bullet proof vehicle with minimal problems..will be the first again to order!!

Honda do not give up on us true lovers of this model. We are looking forward to a redesign and would love a manual transmission!

I am with Steve B...I own an '06 and have vowed to only own Ridgelines for the rest of my life. I have owned every kind of truck made and was never completely satisfied until the Ridgeline!!! Can not wait!

Anonymous said...

I have an 07 RTL and vow to drive Ridgelines forever. Lets hope the new Ridgeline only gets better. Honda, please give us more power and better gas milage. 16 mph in the city is killing me! How about a small v8!!!

rock said...

16 mpg gas mileage is killing you so your asking for a v8...wow..dumb comment.

also you knew what the mpg was of the vehicle before you purchased it...maybe you should have bought a fit.

i hate idiotic posts like this that make zero sense

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the individual was just making a mental comparison to other vehicles that have a V8 and also achieve superior overall mileage to the ridge line.

I'm looking for a new truck now and just passed on a 2012 Ridgeline. I drove all the midsize trucks: Tacoma, Ridgeline and Frontier and the Honda was far away the best riding and driving of the three. It was also the least equipped of them all. $30,000and no bluetooth, no USB??? I don't mind spending for an upgrade package to get what I want but an extra $5,000 when all I want is built-in bluetooth was a deal-killer.

Anonymous said...

You can have an aftermarket radio with integrated bluetooth for $300.

Pignock said...

Yes, after spending $30,000 on a truck, I want to go spend more on stuff every sub $20,000 has as a standard feature.

A v-8 can offer increased fuel mileage over a v-6 just as a large displacement v-8 can over a smaller v-8. Domestics truck esp! 5.3 over a 4.8 gm, or a 5.4 over the 4.6 ford in most applications yields a better fuel rating. The Ridge, mine is now "6", could benefit from an increase in displacement or bump in useable power. My NSX gets 33+ mpg when you drive normally, Ridgie does 31 mpg highway on trips {convert 20% for US/Can comps} Town mpg is 21-24mpg..I ran fleet service...with domestics...but I love my Ridgeline still and can hardly wait for the next iteration :]

Anonymous said...

And I appreciate the cost consideration Pignock but really it is Honda and in the long run way cheaper to run. I guess Toyota as a second choice but I am not 19 and prefer a comfortable ride, the huge backseat, nice ergonomics and do not like the "roof is closing in" feeling of the Toyota. Price wise not that different. Go buy a loss leader Ranger and save a ton, until the wheel bearings go at 60k, and so on and so on... hope you bought the Ridgeline bud....cheers

I have a 2006 Ridgeline RTL w/NAV. I purchased it in early 2005. It has 132,000 miles on it. I have pulled a covered trailer with an ATV and hunting gear from Texas to California several times. I have taken it off road, driven it in the mountains, and in deep sand. All I have ever replaced on it was a plastic bushing on the rear seat leg retracts and one battery. At 132,000 miles the truck still has its original brakes. On the hgihway I average between 22 to as high as 24 mpg. In town I have never done better than 16 mpg. It is the Swiss Army Knife of trucks and by far the most useful vehicle/truck that I have ever owned. I plan to keep it until Honda changes to the truck are significant enough to warrant trading my truck in. What could be improved on the truck:
*30 more horsepower
*At least a 6 speed transmission
*Decrease road & suspension noise
*Add all the tech goodies (blue tooth, iPod controls, etc.) available on trucks costing less
*At least one more inch of ground clearance.

This is a great truck and fits all my needs.

I am on my 3rd Ridgeline, I have had an 06, 09, and have a 12 now. Never had a problem with any of them. Change the oil, rotate the tires and that is about it. Hopefully my next one will be a 2nd generation Honda Ridgeline.

I have an 06 that has well over 150, 000 which my son now drives,I just got the 2012 model because of the few Changes with the up coming 2013.
I decided it wasn't really worth waiting for the 2013. I love this one just as much (probably more) than I did the 06.

This is by far my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. The perfect truck for the weekend warrior. I have an 07 RTL with Navigation and I have 145,000 miles on it. Can't wait for the 2nd generation.... I hope they keep all the versitility. Love the back seats that flip up an the in-bed trunk. I will be first in line for the 2014.

"16 mpg gas mileage is killing you so your asking for a v8...wow..dumb comment. "

if he is getting that kind of mileage he might as well have the v8 with far more power. idiot.

Anonymous said...

The small V6 engine gets bad mileage because without any low end torque you have to mash the pedal to the metal to go anywhere. All the similar V8 trucks get better mileage than the RL. 200,000 on my 2007 RL with much towing at the the weight limit. It has been bullet proof and also still going strong. Awesome winter vehicle with snow tires too. I would like to have a new one, but why go there just to have essentially the same truck I already have? I will continue waiting until there are significant upgrades/improvements.

Anonymous said...

I'm holding off to see the new design before I decide on 2013 or a 2014. Anyone know where I can see the new design? I've been checking the Detroit show, but no luck so far. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

I own a 2007 and I think it is a great vehicle. I was unlucky in as much as one head basket blew at 230,000k, it was repaired but immediately blew again. As a result I had the engine replaced with a used one the dealer found with 40,000k on it. It now has 50,000k and is just fine so far. I am hoping it lasts until the next generation arrives.

Anonymous said...

I should have done a better job of proof reading!!! Should have been head gasket.

Anonymous said...

Great truck! My 2007 just over 115,000 with original brakes. Great design that needs updating and the addition of the trunk should be the future of all trucks. It adds security for cargo and a great temporary cooler. Honda don't give up on this, just improve it and the milage and your quality will win in the end! KJ

Changes to ridgeline i would like- dual exhaust, larger door mirrors, lighter weight=better mpg, gear shift in dash like pilot,
better turning radius, 4wd as option, standard fog lights all models, lighting on heat&air cruise control complete redesign on dash. love these trucks have 2011 plan to buy 2014.

I own an 08 RT with 196K miles on it. Just getting to the end of life on my second set of tires (who can say they got 98K out of tires on a truck?!) I have had absolutely no issues with this one. Changed the water pump and timing belt at 120K+ is all. I love my Ridgeline and will wait for the new model. I here it should be available around March of '14.

2014 HONDA RIDGELINE PICTURES AND SPECS. Has anyone else looked at the "futureasiancars.com" site ? One poster suggested it and they were right. The Ridgeline "Sport" is sleaker in front end design and nice tires and interior. Specs are great and what we are all asking for: more HP 300, more torque 270 lb ft and a 6 speed transmission.(all from the Acura/Honda MDX) Printed the info and off to the Honda Dealer I went to put my money down. They have nothing on them yet!

By far my favorite vehicle I've ever owned ... I have an 07 RTL Navi with 150k on it... Up until now my favorite was a Prelude SI 4WS I had in college but the Ridgeline is just so dependable and practical ... The perfect truck for the weekend warrior!! Can't wait to get the 2014!!

I am the original owner of a 2000 Odyssey now with almost 200K miles on it. My 4 kids have finished college and on their own so I don't have anymore use for a passenger van. I have been planning to buy a Ridgeline for awhile now but have been holding off for a redesign. I hope Honda gets its sh** together this time and finally gets rid of the ugly back-sloping lines which make the tailgate looks like something stolen from a junkyard or surplus warehouse. Aside from being UGLY, the sloping sides do not have any use at all for people who still want sometimes to have a cargo rack or a camper top. Honda has been regressing into U.G.L.Y. designs and I'm very sure it has affected sales. Just look at the ugly redesigned Odyssey and Accord! The "lines" (such as in boat design lines) are just plain ugly and really hurt the eyes. Honda already got me on quality, now it needs to give me something of classical beauty like my 2000 Odyssey. It is the beautiful lines that will get people inside showrooms, not what's under the hood which for Honda, is already a given. A bit of advice for Honda: fire your design chief now before your brand becomes synonymous to C.R.A.P.!! And who cares about that under the floor board storage! I'd much rather carry my tools in a traditional toolbox than having to remove stuff from the truck bed every time I need something in that darn storage. Please, please Honda, give us some nice lines this time please!!!!

Patjo wonders.
I know of three RDs 2005, 2009,2012. All of them require that you piddle in the last 13 litres of fuel . It is a pain. Especially in the Sask winter.
Honda denies any knowledge of the problem. They sell RDs but don,t drive them.
The 83 litre tank turns into a 70 Litre tank.
Are they all like this?

Best vehicle I hsve ever owned.I my opinion these changes would be ideal... 1-2 inch higher ground clearance. the body needs to( "loose some-weight)!!!! The body does not need to look so BULKY. Look how much more appealing the new chevy and ford trucks look.!!!!!!!!!! Honda needs to make a Better handling is a must and as long as Honda dependability does not change A more powerfull engine with torque and good gass mileage (300-330 hp)

I've had an 08RTS which I should have kept, never had an issue. I traded for the 12Sport, that had numerous problems. The dealership finally made me an offer to take it back. Mr. Burns:

I am 69 years old and I have delayed getting a Ridgeline for a lot of the really good reasons listed by others. There is no reason why Honda cannot respond to the needs of a lot of people who want an upgraded vehicle. I can give you ideas galore on improving the car. But, what I am talking about here, however, is Honda's irresponsibility and a lack of willingness to make some good corporate decisions. I see a company that may be in disarray, but more imporantly does not have the leadership to do anything and just simply "does not care!"

I would very much like to get a Ridgeline, but you are slowly losing me. I could graviate towards the Toyota truck line. But there is something exquisite about Honda's cars and truck that has always captured the immagination of the buyer, including myself.

Please, get yourself and the company in gear and let's see what you can do to get a new Ridgeline truck out on the market.

One thing: How to sell it and market it? Answer: Why not do what so many Japanese companies have done over the years. Sell the Ridgeline at a much lower price for a few years, before finally beginning to increase the price. You will get a lot of new customers that way. So many of us will be the first to stand in line when you get the new designed truck. But, you'd better get it done quickly. You are slowly losing a lot of us who are just drying up and wilting away in the wind, as I said.
