Last year the SUV segment was led by the Honda CR-V with 635,256 units sold globally.
The SUV segment keeps increasing despite the financial crisis which affects the majority of markets. The leader in this segment last year was Honda CR-V, followed by Hyundai ix35 and VW Tiguan, with 494, 453 units sold and 429, 013 units respectively. The difference between the aging Toyota RAV4 and its rival VW Tiguan, was less than 1,000 units. Ford Kuga managed to surpass the Kia Sportage, and Nissan Qashqai kept its position among the top 10 with 298,066 units sold in 2012.Dacia Duster managed to get the 8th place, with 295,069 units sold, including vehicles sold under the Renault brand in South America and India. The 11th place was taken by the Nissan Juke, with 232,128 units sold, a model which saw a significant increase over the past years. The only premium SUV which reached top 20 as the Audi Q5 with 200, 474 units sold, taking the 14th place, surpassing its rival BWM X3, which took the 26th place, with 149,853 units sold.
