This is not the next Honda Accord.Here are some facts to consider about what type of direction this car should go, it is no secret that here in Canada we prefer the smaller cars, our 2010 Honda Civic sold 57,501 units VS the 2010 Honda Accord which sold a paltry 14,659 (down I might add from 16,017 in 2009).
However in the US, different story, the 2010 Honda Accord sold 311,381 (up I might add from 290,056 in 2009) and placed 2nd overall for cars sold in the US (Toyota Camry sold 327,804 units). The 2010 Honda Civic sold 260,082. So, in the US, it's obvious that they like the larger cars.
Looking at these numbers, and thinking of North America as a whole, I would have to say that the car is the right size.
I will start this off by going through what I'd like to see;
-Better gas mileage.
-Shorter, put it back into the mid-sized car category.
-Heated Cloth Seats
-Leather 2nd row Heated Seats
-Heated Steering Wheel Option
-Make the Navi portable, using the cars key, you can unlock the Navi and go.
-Flat Rear Floor.
-Keep the traditional windshield rake, people in this class want to see the front end.
-Updated Navi Interface.
-Height Adjustable Passengers Seat (if not power, pump!)
-Please stay away from the push button start!
-Adjustable Power Pedals (a Touring model?)
-115 Volt outlet More Common
-Inflatable Seatbelts
-Forward/Backward Adjustable Headrests (some find that the Headrests push too forward).
-Backup Sensors w/Backup Camera
-Blind Spot Indicators (like in the Touring Odyssey)

Wow the front of the new Accord looks very different, looks very "Benz-Like". For additional features I think standard Bluetooth would be nice. Also a hard drive for music storage (standard) since I have a massive music collection.
To be competitive should have a 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters (a dual clutch 7 or 8 speed auto would be even better), rear A/C vents, HID lights, twin scroll turbos (much better than expensive and complex hybrid systems).proximity keys, push button start stop, cooled seats, back up cameras, turn signal indicators in the mirrors, LED lights (I wish Honda would stop their policy of not offering premium features in the HOnda's because of a fear of cutting into sales of the ACuras). Acura's don't sell well anyway, Honda should consider just shutting down the Acura division and just add the Acura features to upgrade the Honda lineup. Honda should use the should hire the Hyundai or Kia design studios--and then there car will actually have attractic styling. If Honda is just plays it safe like the 2012 Civic and just carrys over the powertrains and the only new engine is this plug-in hybrid (which I have absolutely no interest in)and does not add the features that I mentioned above--when it comes time to replace my Accord-- I will probably buy a turbo Optima or a Sonata(both cars are better than the current Accord and it remains to be seen whether Honda will improve the next Accord enough for me to even consider staying with Honda which has yet to release any car over the last 3-4 years that have impressed me with its technology, styling or features.
Honda should look back at the European Accord .... It is for some reason truer to Honda's roots and more fun to drive than the all american version. What's wrong with a diesel? Is the honda's unit not competitive?

Heated CLOTH seats?? really? blind spot detection system?? there's a reason only the Odyssey has that...it's because the Odyssey has a huge blind spot! Rear A/C vents? Stop being a cheap ass and bump up to teh EX then. Honda getting rid of Acura...you dumb ass do you even know why Toyota has Lexus, Honda has Acura, Nissan has Infiniti, etc.? It's to increase sales because import laws limit so brand extensions allow for increased sales via a different brand. Oh, and to the dumbass who said go back to the Euro Accord...it's called an ACURA TSX! In Japan, the Accord is actually the TSX, and the USDM Accord is the Inspire, aka the TL. No matter how you bitch and moan about how Hyundai's look...Honda still sells better than them, and more so than Toyota whos numbers are inflated by fleet sales.
Ultimately what it cdomes down to is RESIDUAL VALUE. I'd rather have what you morons call an ugly car, but have it be worth more in 3-5 years for re-sale or trade-in. I'm Korean and I can say this, but the build quality is lacking in the Hyundai's and Kia's...they LOOK nice...but actually feel it...I've felt better quality plastics on fisher price toys

Heated Cloth seats do make sense, The base model TSX (Euro Accord) in Canada has them and they are excellent. The seats arent cold when you first sit on them like leather is, but still heat up like a traditional heated seat. The List of things tha "anonymous" is asking for in an accord is a little ubsurd for a Honda. Their is a very good reason Honda has Acura.
Some of the features that you had mentioned aren't even offered in most Acura's. Heated rear seats in a sedan are only offered in an RL, I think that feature in an accord is a pipe dream.
While I do agree the current styling on most Hondas do leave something to be desired and their standard features are a little behind the times compared to the Koreans, their build quality, reliability and resale value are still amazing.
I think Honda and Acura on will be on a huge upswing in the next couple of years.

On the '13 Accords, I think it's time for Honda to offer HID's on gasolined cars and LED's on hybrids. So many class-leading firsts for Honda Accords in the mid-size segment, but in the headlight part, why is Honda so hesitant to dip their toes in? Cost can't be that much of a factor anymore, and HID does not equal super duper luxury car anymore. With whatever nice improvements Accords makes for 2013, if it comes with halogen lights, I truly think the car would be an incomplete update and re-design.
I've been driving Accords for over 15 years ('96 EX-L, '96 EX wagon, '03 EX-L V6 Navi, and '10 EX-L Navi), and headlights is where it makes me want to look elsewhere next time.
6-speeds or more, please. Honda can make a paddle-shift trim above EX, if deem necessary (so it won't raise the cost on those that don't care for it), but make CVT and paddle-shifters available.
I also like blinkers in the side mirrors. If Honda make power-folding mirrors a factory option, I know I would be getting that.
Some kind of cool daytime running LED light (not just ordinary DRL that utilizes high-beams during the day) something like Audi's, Lexus', would be a class-leading direction Honda would be taking, IF Honda has that on 2013's.
Not sure what other options Accord's lacking that won't catapult it into luxury car territory, but I do like the proximity key with push-button start (wife's got it in her little Toyota Ractis in Japan, and it's very convenient).
Please have a cool smart phone enabled functionality that would at least stand up to some of the other hip(pier) cars.

Well now that we have seen the Accord Coupe concept, we have an idea of what both models will look like. New tech will include blind spot warnings, lane departure assist, as well as forward collision assist.
All I can say is...FINALLY SOME F-ING TECHNOLOGY in these Hondas. We have an 08 EX-L V6 nav. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car. Fun to drive, comfortable, spacious, good looking, but so lacking in technology. The Accord is the last out of the big 3-4 to be designed. Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry, Kia Optima, Ford Fusion (also coming out later this year) have all been redesigned to be sportier and loaded with tech. I drove the new Camry XLE V6, and I have to say, that is so much nicer than the current Accord. The nav is amazingly well done with the entune system. Has the proximity key, and blind spot system. Who ever said that Honda won't put the prox. key on the Accord because it is so easy to duplicate the code and gain access to the car is ridiculous. If that was the case, I don't think over half of the car industry would be using. If you do some research, it's actually never been done. Yes it may happen in the future, but then higher security measures will have been put in place.
So, what I would like to see, other than what we have been told is, something other than plain halogen lights in the front; wether it be LED's or Xenon's or just HID's. And LED"s in the rear would be nice as well. The last gen had it? Don't know why it didn't make it to this generation. I would like to see the steering be tightened just a tad, if not some speed variable steering be put in place. Oh my gosh, I hope that Navigation system is GUTTED, and hopefully the system that is in the TL is put in place. Even though this is a Honda, the Accord si the flagship model, and some upgrades need to be done. I would love for there to be an LCD screen in the center of the tach and speedo, and I think they have said something about that. More things, such as push button start, memory seats would be amazing. The Crosstour has it so I would assume they would bring that into the new Accord.
Ventilated seats would be nice, since they are on the Optima...I think, but I wouldn't expect them to be included. Also, an electronic trunk and gas cap release would be nice, as well as a way to gain access at the trunk. Whether it be by the key or an electronic opener above the licensee plate.
The Accord has a LOT of competition now, especially since nothing is really low end anymore. With Hyundai and Toyta raising the bar, Honda is going to have to do a lot to grab new customers and keep the ones that have to keep it the best selling car. I love Honda's, especially the Accord, and am very excited to see what they will do with the new one.
Road noise is bad in 2012. I traded for Camry. Maybe Honda will correct in 2013.
