WorldCarFans: Next generation Honda Civic Coupe spied inside and out

Looks substantially different than outgoing car

Our spies have caught on camera the next generation Honda Civic Coupe and thankfully they were able to capture the interior cabin as well.

Honda surprised everyone at this year's New York Auto Show where they unveiled a stunning Civic concept previewing the tenth generation set to go on sale this fall in United States. The concept took the shape of a coupe and today we get to see how the design will morph to the production car. Although the prototype was wearing an extensive amount of camouflage, it's easy to notice the car will look significantly different and will adopt a sleeker shape.

Courtesy of some leaked patent designs, we already have a clue regarding the car's exterior appearance and in this latest batch of spy shots we also get to see the interior cabin with a dashboard that boasts a more conventional layout. This particular prototype had a two-tone upholstery and was most likely a higher specification model judging by that generously-sized touchscreen display. Other noticeable features include an electric parking brake, sliding armrest, three-spoke steering multi-function steering wheel along with metallic accents and some large buttons below the infotainment system.

The tenth generation Civic will officially premiere on September 16, but it’s not known at this point whether Honda will show the coupe as well or they will just unveil the sedan. We do know for sure the hybrid and CNG versions have been axed as Honda believes the newly developed 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine will be efficient enough and will work with a short-shift six-speed manual gearbox and an optional CVT.

Autonews; Honda readies more sporty, luxurious Civic

With the official debut of Honda’s redesigned Civic just a few months away, the latest spy shots show the 10th-generation model will come with luxury features normally reserved for fancy German sedans, not practical Japanese family cars.

Prototypes caught during hot-weather testing look to offer features like front and rear heated leather seats, and back up Honda’s promise that the Civic would offer its LaneWatch camera system for passenger-side visibility, and at least a few elements of Honda Sensing -- a suite of semi-autonomous safety features like lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision braking.

The redesigned interior also gets a simplified center console that sheds the current two-level display on the dashboard.

The spy shots also indicate the exterior of the new Civic -- scheduled to go on sale later this fall -- will also come with some high-zoot gear. Think LED headlights (similar to the recent Accord refresh and the Civic concept that debuted earlier this year), dual-exhaust on some models, and a sporty, fastback profile.

We’ve seen these camouflaged prototypes ourselves on the roads around Honda’s Torrance headquarters and the new Civic looks noticeably larger than its predecessor. It also loses the current model’s cab-forward look for a more refined, graceful silhouette and longer hood.

Honda has made it clear it wants this 2016 Civic to amp up the sportiness, and has promised some versions will come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual transmission.

The Civic will also be the first model from Honda to ride on its new modular platform, one that will eventually underpin the next-generation Accord and CR-V.

Honda has also promised a coupe will follow this sedan, and then a sportier Si model, a five-door hatchback, and -- cue high-fives from tuners -- the much-revered Type R hatchback that’s long been forbidden fruit in the U.S. market.

The production Civic sedan is expected to debut in August or September.

2016 Honda Civic Hatchback Sighted in India

by Mark Kesler of www.modernreaders.com

The Honda Civic may be making a comeback in India, and according to a new report, it does seem that the compact will be getting a diesel version for the country’s car buyers.

Rumors regarding a left-hand drive India-spec Civic had been swirling since late last year, but a report from India’s Business Standard Motoring included some spy photos of the new Civic hatchback at Honda’s second plant in the country, located

in Tapukara, Rajasthan.  The report noted that India has yet to confirm that the 2016 Civic will be arriving in the country, and that the car didn’t make an appearance at the 2014 India Auto Expo.  And while the spy shots do look legit, Business Standard Motoring added that the new Civic is “not coming anytime soon, even if the company confirms it for the Indian market” – the report suggests it would be available at dealerships sometime in 2016.

The 2016 Honda Civic has been a hot topic since last week, when a gaudy lime-green concept Civic made its debut at the New York International Auto Show and separate reports also teased the arrival of a hot hatch version for the North American market.  The India-spec Civic, however, may have its own distinctive specs for the country’s buyers, including a 1.6-liter diesel engine capable of 120 PS (118 horsepower) and 300 nm (221 lb/ft.) of torque.

2016 Honda Civic Spied Testing Once Again

Next Gen Honda Civic caught testing.
2011 Honda AC-X Concept from which the next Honda Civic takes it's design cue's from.
The most revealing photos yet of the upcoming 2016 Honda Civic are here.
From the photos, we get a good sense for the car’s overall proportions, though most of the details are still covered up. For styling, it looks like Honda borrowed some cues from the 2011 AC-X Concept, including the raked rear window that almost gives it a fastback look.
The taillights are partially visible and appear to be mostly unchanged, though up front we can see new LED daytime running lights.

The new Civic will ride on an all-new scalable platform from Honda that will also eventually underpin the Accord and the CR-V. Rumor has it that the Civic is going global when the new model is released, with all production moving to the United States. If that happens, there is a greater likelihood that we will get more performance oriented versions here in North America.

Automobilemag.com: Next-Gen Honda Civic Spotted Testing for the First Time

I'm not sure what to think about this, very different direction from 2006+....
Kelly Pleskot of www.automobilemag.com
Our spy photographers spotted a prototype for the next-generation Honda Civic out testing for the first time, and it looks like major visual changes are on the way for the sedan. New photos reveal a racy fastback design that completely changes the overall look of the car.

Despite the camo, it is pretty clear that the new Honda Civic boasts a steeply-raked back end that tapers off into a bold spoiler. The model appears to have cutlines for a proper trunk, so it will not adopt a hatchback configuration, but instead retain its classification as a sedan. The rest of the Honda Civic's body complements the sporty back end. Angular headlights and tasteful character lines run across the entire body for a youthful, modern look.
