Honda NSX Type R to get significantly more power?

It looks like Honda may be cooking up a hotter version of its new NSX sports car, folks. According to The Detroit Bureau, insiders at Acura revealed that engineers are currently looking at several new ways of improving the NSX’s power output by a “notch or two.” Best of all, it is said that this added performance could be for an NSX Type R.

There aren’t too many details yet, but the US publication reports that several ways of boosting the NSX’s power are being looked in to at the moment. For one, engineers are said to be closely focused on the NSX’s 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 engine. As standard, the mill produces 500 hp and 550 Nm of torque, but its makers claim that this is still far from the engine’s limits.

Insiders at Acura say that the current engine’s 143 hp per litre output may be “impressive, but far from nearing the limits of its design.” The report continues to say that increasing output by just 10 or 20 hp per litre would yield a considerable performance improvement. The efficiency of the turbochargers is another area that is being examined.

Upgrades to the sports car’s electrical system is also likely, with engineers believing that the current motors could actually deliver significantly more power if only they could get more energy from the battery pack at a quicker rate. One method of achieving this would be to include a larger battery pack altogether, or to rework the chemistry of the battery itself.

There’s also reason to believe that the NSX Type R would get a bunch of carbon-fibre exterior components for aerodynamic gains. Further weight shaving is also possible, on top of the several opportunities to do so on the current NSX, courtesy of the optional carbon-fibre exterior replacement bits.

Currently, the hybrid all-wheel drive Acura NSX sports car is powered by a Sport Hybrid Power Unit powertrain. The rear axle is driven by a 500 hp/550 Nm 3.5 litre DOHC twin-turbo V6 petrol engine and a 47 hp/148 Nm Direct Drive Motor. Two more motors exclusively power the front axle. The front-mounted Twin Motor Unit (TMU) delivers 36 hp at each wheel and 146 Nm. Collectively, the NSX has a total system output of 573 hp and 645 Nm.

2015 Subaru BRZ tS STI launched in Japan with several mechanical upgrades

2015 Subaru BRZ STi TS (oh so many acronyms; BRZ = Boxer Rear-wheel drive Zenith; STi= Subaru Tecnica International; TS = Touring Sport)
Subaru Tecnica International (STI) is introducing in Japan a higher specification BRZ tS.

Before you get your hopes up too high, the latest special edition doesn't bring a power boost so it packs the same 200 PS & 205 Nm punch coming from a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine. Billed as being an "STI complete car", the BRZ tS comes with an STI-tuned front suspension, revised rear damper along with STI-designed V-shaped bar, flexible front draw stiffener and a large-diameter drive shaft.

It also has a specially tuned Vehicle Dynamics Control, a bespoke filter for the Sound Creator and Brembo brakes with ventilated discs. The BRZ tS rides on black 18-inch alloy shod in 225/40 ZR18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires and benefits from a series of cosmetic tweaks like a new under spoiler, front & rear bumpers, front fender garnish and a black finish for the side mirror caps and shark fin antenna.

Stepping inside the cabin, STI installed a bespoke speedometer, side sill plates, gear knob and push button ignition while the leather-wrapped steering wheel is also exclusive to this model. Other tweaks include a carbon finish for the instrument panel, special door trims and Recaro front bucket seats.

Only 300 units will be made and customers will have to choose from the following body paints: Crystal White Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Sunrise Yellow. Subaru is already taking orders and prospect customers should make a deposit until October for the manual version which costs 3,990,000 yen (about $32,600) whereas the automatic model is priced at 4,071,000 yen ($33,256).

Ford today unveiled the all-new GT, an ultra-high-performance supercar that serves as a technology showcase for top EcoBoost performance, aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction.

The GT is one of more than 12 new Ford Performance vehicles coming by 2020. It joins Focus RS, F-150 Raptor, Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT350R in the growing Ford Performance lineup.

Beginning production late next year, the GT hits the road in select global markets to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford GT race cars placing 1-2-3 at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans.

"As we at Ford drive innovation into every part of our business, it's worth remembering that our first innovation as a company was not in a laboratory, but on the racetrack," said Mark Fields, Ford president and chief executive officer, referring to Henry Ford's win of a 1901 car race that inspired financial backers to invest in his company. The all-new GT supercar features rear-wheel drive, a mid-mounted engine, and a sleek, aerodynamic, two-door coupe body shell. It is propelled by the most powerful EcoBoost production engine ever - a next-generation twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing more than 600 horsepower.

Rendering – Next gen Godzilla (Nissan GT-R) will do 0-100kph in 2.5s

The Nissan GT-R is a supercar that has won the hearts of many, not because of its looks but because of its precision.

The GT-R has been nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ for a very good reason, it combines brutal acceleration with brilliant driving dynamics that has kept the enthusiasts satisfied.

Here is a rendering of what the next generation 2016 Nissan GT-R could look like by German publication Auto Bild, expected on the stands in 2015.

The first thing that you notice is the familiar headlight design that we’ve been accustomed to seeing on Nissan’s concept cars and even the facelifted Nissan Micra – the boomerang shape.

Nissan is also likely to provide a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox and the engine is expected to be tuned to 600bhp. While the current GT-R does the 0-100km/h sprint in 2.7 seconds with R-Mode Start (Nissan’s way of saying Launch Control), it is expected that this would be improved to 2.5 seconds in the next model! Hello Bugatti Veyron!

The GT-R has always been lauded for its technical bits that help it to go around a corner faster than anything else. This is expected to be improved even more in the next generation.

When the next gen Nissan GT-R does come out, it will have the Porsche 911 firmly in its sights. However, as we know it, the Nissan undercuts the competition by a significant margin when it comes to price.

Jalopnik: Lamborghini Veneno: All Of It

Whoa! Batmobile eat your heart out....
As Ferrari, McLaren, and Porsche ready their reserved, eco-friendly hypercars, Sant'Agata preps the Lamborghini Veneno, a $4.6 million middle finger of a car.

Ever since the arrival of the Murcielago, people have been missing the rude, absurd, overdrawn, wonderful Lamborghini of the '80s and '90s. Audi's take on Lamborghini started out fairly conservative, with relatively clean, classic shapes.

Well, it looks like that design era is over and the Veneno thoroughly brings back the crazy wings, vents, and angles of the Countach era. These un-watermarked photos give us an even better sense of its Le Mans LMP1 car via Sbarro styling. We can't look away.

Oh, and it supposedly has a 740 horsepower 6.5 liter V12 with a top speed of 220 miles an hour and a 0-62 time of under three seconds.

2015 Acura NSX to cost more than a Nissan GT-R

To be produced in Marysville, Ohio

A Honda spokesman has released some details about the upcoming NSX sports car.

Chris Martin said that Honda will not reveal pricing info about the upcoming NSX in the near future, but he did say that it will be more expensive than the 2013 Nissan GT-R which in the United States starts from 97,820 USD. He added that "it's going to be a technological marvel."

The Honda/Acura NSX is scheduled to reach production phase for the 2015 model year and it will be manufactured in Marysville, Ohio. It will be an important car for the brand since it's going to be the first hand-built, specialty sports car that Honda has ever made outside Japan. The NSX is expected to get a hybrid powertrain and a mid-engine layout with an all-wheel drive system.

Peugeot Onyx Concept: A Le Mans Car With Stylish New Clothing

Wow, is this ever a nice concept....
When you think Peugeot, you likely think of quirky yet middle-of the road French cars (or, if you’re esoterically-minded, perhaps bicycles, scooters, or even pepper grinders). You don’t usually think of supercars – yet that’s exactly what the French automaker has concocted for this year’s Paris Motor Show.Meet the Peugeot Onyx, a vision of a supercar “sculpted using materials processed as little as possible.”

Although its nose vaguely echoes modern Peugeot design language, the car as a whole looks unlike most production Peugeot models. If anything, its chiseled, square nose, wide rear track, and rounded fenders recall the early 905, Peugeot’s prototype racer launched in the early 1990s. A double-bubble roof – fabricated from polycarbonate – is like that used on the swoopy 308 RCZ, but terminates in a mesmerizing wrap-around grille on the rear deck lid.

There are more than a few unusual highlights to the car’s form. An cowl accent, that wraps into the Onyx’s rear-view mirrors, is made from unpainted carbon fiber, giving a hint to the car’s composite-intensive structure. Copper exterior accents, which start at the front fenders and end just aft of the rear doors, are actually fabricated from copper sheeting. And, in case you forgot just what nation could deliver on oddball design like this, blue, white, and red accents on the tip of each mirror serve as a reminder of the Onyx’s Gallic origins.

The most unusual design work is saved for the interior. Peugeot describes the Onyx cabin as a “one-piece pod,” and it’s not an exaggeration. Every surface – including instrument panel, center console, door panels, headliner, and even seats – seamlessly and organically flow into one another.

Every surface is trimmed in a unique woven wool felt, save for trim accents on the dashboard and center console. Those are fashioned from a faux wood composite, made by recycling discarded newspapers (or, perhaps discarded PSA stock certificates). You’d think this one-piece, wrap-around cabin would be a bit claustrophobic, but the vast expanses of glass provide plenty of natural light.

Much like Peugeot’s Quasar and Proxima concepts of the 1980s – which draped exotic sheetmetal atop mechanicals borrowed from the 205 Turbo 16 rally car – the Onyx borrows its mechanicals from a Peugeot race machine. In this case, the driveline – along with most chassis and suspension components – are ripped from the cancelled 908 hybrid, which would have raced at Le Mans had Peugeot not withdrawn from prototype racing. A twin-turbocharged, 3.7-liter diesel V-8 sends its 600 hp to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox. A KERS system recovers energy lost in braking, stores it as electricity in lithium-ion batteries, can provide a brief 80-hp boost.

Like the 908 itself, expect the Onyx to go down in history as little more than a stillborn dream. But hey – if an automaker facing a fickle fiscal situation can dream, why not dream big?

AutoGuide: 2013 Subaru BRZ vs 2012 Honda Civic Si HFP

 FWD vs RWD Sport Compact Shootout

Once upon a time the Honda Civic Si held a dominant position within the sport compact world. But these days its not only been dethroned in the performance department by the Mazdaspeed3, it’s in serious jeopardy of being pushed even further back in the pack by the likes of the new Ford Focus ST. And if that’s not enough to make the execs at Honda flop a sweat, suddenly there’s not one but two serious contenders for the sport compact title that are motivated by their rear wheels. We are, of course, talking about the Subaru BRZ and its twin brother from Scion.

FAST FACTS: 2013 Subaru BRZ

1. - A 2.0L direct-injection boxer 4-cylinder makes 200-hp and 7000 rpm and 151 lb-ft of torque at 6000 rpm. 2. Compared to the FR-S it gets firmer shocks but softer springs
3. Priced at $25,495 to start, $2,000 extra gets you the Limited model with fog lights, a trunk lid spoiler, heated side view mirrors, heated front seats, Alcantara trimmed upholstery and automatic climate control
Honda has recently fought back with the introduction of the limited edition HFP (Honda Factory Performance) model of the Si, the only performance-oriented machine left in their lineup. Having tested the HFP Civic on the street and around a couple of autocross style courses, both Editor-in-Chief Colum Wood and I were impressed enough by its improved handling and grip level that we felt a track dual between it and the highly touted BRZ would help provide a little clarity to the rapidly changing landscape within this “fun and affordable” youth-targeted market segment.

BENCH RACING


Hypothesizing about a car’s pace around a race track or down a drag strip – a hobby know as ‘bench racing’ among go-fast enthusiasts – is a time-honored tradition that Colum and I could not avoid here. I turned a 1-minute 28.5-second lap in the standard Civic Si coupe last summer, and given the stickier rubber and firmer suspension setup on the HFP version, I felt it would go at least 2-seconds a lap quicker and likely beat the BRZ in the process.

1. A 2.4L 4-cylinder makes 201 hp at 7000 rpm and 170 lb-ft of torque at 4300 rpm. 2. Honda Factory Performance package includes 18-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires, a lowered and stiffened suspension, and a body kit
3. Si HFP models are limited to just 500 units and priced at $26,185.
Colum, on the other hand, felt the BRZ would come out on top because of its much ballyhooed handling balance and the advantages associated with rear-wheel drive, first among them being the ability to “steer” the rear of the car with the throttle. Colum also rightly pointed out the BRZ is about 100 lbs lighter than the Civic (2,762 lbs for the Subaru and 2,874 lbs for the Honda), and if Jenny Craig and Sir Isaac Newton have taught us anything, it’s that weight is the enemy and the laws of physics are immutable.
I then countered that the Civic has a sizable torque advantage (170 lb-ft at 4400 rpm vs. the BRZ’s 151 lb-ft at 6000 rpm) that would offset the BRZ’s weight advantage, and that the Civic’s super slick shifting 6-speed transmission and highly effective Torsen limited slip differential would go a long way to overcoming the disadvantages of a front-wheel drive layout.
Colum then came back with some technical jibber jabber about the BRZ’s direct-injection 2.0-liter engine actually having a much broader powerband than the numbers suggest.
Apparently Subaru’s engineers intentionally flattened its torque curve so that most of its grunt comes on around 3000 rpm, a fact that would help the BRZ overcome an almost half-liter displacement disadvantage (2.0-liters vs. the Honda’s 2.4).

MCLAREN'S SHOCKING ONE-OFF X1

Well, I can at least tell you that the anon buyer isn't me, not that I wouldn't want this though....
McLaren Special Operations builds bespoke aubergine-influenced (really) MP4-12C for Pebble Beach debut


The Can-Am Edition MP4-12C previewed earlier this week is perhaps the kind of natural extension of that car's looks and ethos and reflection of McLaren's racing heritage. The kind of thing you might expect a discerning customer to request from McLaren Special Operations, the custom corner of the Woking plant where money talks and nothing is out of the question.

Even this.

What was that about a 'natural extension' of the MP4-12C? Well, this ain't it. And yet is.

A pretty dramatic demonstration of what MSO is willing to do if you open your wallet wide enough (nobody's saying but we're guessing pretty damned wide in this case) the X1 has been built as a unique interpretation of one McLaren customer's vision of their ultimate car. Classic influences, lots of chrome, voluptuous lines and faired-in rear wheels are not, it's fair to say, what you'd expect of the normally ruthlessly tech-focused and clean minimalism of McLaren. Indeed, our jaws are still on the floor as we take it all in.

Designed by RCA graduate and McLaren stylist Hong Yeo, under the guidance of design chief Frank Stephenson and MSO Programme Director Paul MacKenzie, the X1's influences extend from the automotive - Facel Vega, Chrysler D'Elegance Ghia, Buick Electra, Mercedes-Benz 540K and Citroën SM are among those name-checked - to the architectural, including the Guggenheim museums in New York and Bilbao. Airstream caravans, grand pianos, Audrey Hepburn and a Thomas Mann Mont Blanc pen are also in the mix. As is ... the humble aubergine. "The client liked the shiny texture of the finish," according to Stephenson. What has been going on down there in Woking? What next, Ron Dennis turns out to enjoy cross dressing and does the Friday afternoon drinks trolley run in high heels and stockings? Apologies for creating that vision but, well, it's all a bit of a curveball.

And what of that client? Well, we know they also own an F1, a McLaren SLR and a 12C. So they're obviously a fairly committed McLaren fan. Other than that it's all very hush-hush.

There's a lot to this car. So much in fact we'll let McLaren do the talking and the full press release accompanying the photos is reproduced below.

McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the division of McLaren Automotive responsible for the delivery of bespoke projects, will present a breathtaking one-off supercar at The Quail, an exclusive event on August 17, 2012 that is a highlight of the Pebble Beach weekend in Monterey, USA.

Called the McLaren X-1 and based structurally on the company's groundbreaking carbon MonoCell but with a totally unique body, it has been created for an anonymous car enthusiast.

X-1: the brief
It's not every day that a team gets to create something unique in a project that would take the supercar, even by McLaren standards, to a different level. The challenge began with a special brief.

'One of our clients who already owned a McLaren F1, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and now a 12C, wanted a unique car,' says MSO Programme Director, Paul MacKenzie. 'The conversation began with our Executive Chairman Ron Dennis almost three years ago - before the 12C was even launched. The client wanted a machine that had all the capability of the 12C but wrapped in a unique body that reflected his needs and personality.'

In a subsequent meeting, Paul Mackenzie and Design Director Frank Stephenson went to see him to start to explore the sort of car he wanted.

Says Frank Stephenson: 'The key qualities the client desired were "timeless and classical elegance". Which was some challenge.'

That meeting with Mackenzie and Stephenson lasted for almost three hours. From the pages of notes that were gathered, the design team brought together hundreds of images from the world of automotive, architecture, fashion, design and even film. These were then presented to the customer, and were then narrowed down to a mood book, full of inspiring images from which the design spirit of this unique car would be derived.

Inspirational cars included a 1961 Facel Vega, a 1953 Chrysler D'Elegance Ghia, a 1959 Buick Electra, a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K and a 1971 Citroën SM. There were various examples of architecture - including the Guggenheim museums in New York and Bilbao - plus a Jaeger LeCoultre art deco clock, an Airstream trailer, a Thomas Mann Montblanc pen, a grand piano - and an eggplant. 'The client liked the shiny texture of the finish,' notes Stephenson. There was also a black-and-white photo of Audrey Hepburn.

'The client wanted a competition between external designers - some outside the automotive world - and McLaren's own designers,' notes Stephenson. In the end, a design by McLaren's Korean-born RCA graduate Hong Yeo was chosen, and completed under the direction of Stephenson.

One of the biggest design challenges faced by Yeo was that most cars that embody classic elegance and timeless values have front engines and rear-wheel drive proportions. This is the exact opposite of a mid-engined supercar. So a new visual language for the car had to be found which led to months of sketching and modelling to find that perfect visual balance.

Stephenson recalls: 'From this design, we then produced a 30 per cent scale model, then a full-size hard foam model. Initially, we planned to do it all digitally but the client insisted on seeing "real" models.

'The client was very clear in his own mind what he wanted. But the only styling feature prescribed were metal brightwork rails running from the nose, over the shoulderline and hips, to the rear of the greenhouse.'

In the words of Hong Yeo: 'X-1 embodies the McLaren value that every part has to have a purpose. No details are simply visual cues, every one has a purpose. Although I like to think the wide body combined with pontoon style rear fenders will ensure the car glides when it's moving just like a superhero's cape...'

The styling took 18 months to sign off but the result is a design that in a few decades time will be hard to pinpoint exactly when it was created ... timeless, therefore, exactly as the client requested.

X-1: the creation
The X-1 is the most ambitious example yet of MSO's expertise. It has a whole new body made of advanced materials. Everything is bespoke, even down to the lights and wheels, necessitating new testing and homologation meaning the car took two and a half years to build, a process that began before the styling was signed off.

The X-1 had its own development programme because crucially, this wasn't to be a fragile concept car that would never see tarmac. It was to be a usable car, road legal and capable of travelling at supercar speeds. It also had to comfortably seat two adults so although the 12C was already as shrink-wrapped as it could be from a packaging perspective, the ingenious flexibility of the MonoCell allowed the creation of a completely different form while maintaining the engineering purity of a McLaren.

A full CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) aerodynamic testing schedule ensured high-speed stability, and the car also completed approximately 625 miles of testing including two intensive testing stints at the Idiada circuit in Spain with chief McLaren test driver, Chris Goodwin. After testing, the whole car was meticulously rebuilt, by hand to concours standard.

X-1: the detail
MSO Programme Director Paul Mackenzie explains: 'The X-1 showcases the skills of McLaren Special Operations. More and more luxury customers want bespoke or individual features. The X-1 demonstrates that we can provide the ultimate personalisation service. It also shows that MSO is not just a technology led company. X-1 demonstrates a commitment to perfection and to the highest levels of quality.'

All body panels of the X-1 are made from carbon, and are finished in a rich piano black, as specified by the owner. Body sides are lacquered visual carbon fibre. 'The black paint has no metallic or colour tints and is one of the most challenging colours to paint, but the finish is absolutely exquisite and befits the car perfectly'adds Stephenson.

Components were tooled exclusively for the car. They even include unique head- and taillights, inspired by the McLaren Speed Marque logo. The brightwork is machined from solid aluminium, and a nickel finish is then applied. The McLaren logo in the nose is specially machined from solid aluminium then nickel plated. Wheels are also unique to the X-1, and are diamond turned with a tinted lacquer to complement the exterior nickel-plated brightwork.

The brightwork itself is all machined from solid aluminium, and then nickel finished to give the same hue throughout. Even the McLaren Speed Marque badge in the nose is machined from solid aluminium, then nickel plated.

The same brightwork is used for the over-the-shoulder rails (as specified by the owner), at the base of the windscreen and the back of the glasshouse, and for the 'eyebrows' over the bespoke headlights. The McLaren Airbrake rear wing is also machined from solid aluminium and nickel plated, to complement the rest of the brightwork.

Perhaps the most unusual styling feature is the enclosed rear wheels, an upshot of the owner's desire to have a car reflecting 'timeless elegance'. The wheels are accessed by carbon panels using, as Stephenson explains, 'some of the most gorgeous hinges you've ever seen'. The styling, too, is in no way compromised by the opening rear wings.

He adds: 'The attention to detail is astonishing. Neat styling touches feature throughout the design, such as the rear number plate illuminators finished in carbon, a gorgeous machined aluminium cap is used for the header tank, and carbon finishers line the engine bay.'

The doors have also been developed specifically for the X-1, although they retain the dihedral action and twin hinges, and the roof is also new. Externally, only the glasshouse is carried over from the 12C.

The unique body of the X-1 means most dimensions have changed. The X-1 is 4658mm long - 109mm longer than a 12C. Width is 2097mm (with mirrors) - an increase of 188 mm. Despite the revised roofline, the height remains the same, at 1199mm. Kerb weight is almost identical (about 1400kg), as the lighter carbon body panels compensate for the greater length and width. Light weight, as with all McLaren projects, was a priority.

While the basic architecture of the interior did not change, personalisation includes bespoke Harissa Red McLaren Nappa leather used for the seats, door and roof trim, and switchgear with machined nickel-coated, aluminium bezels. The carbon interior trim has a titanium weave, to give a magical 3D-like effect. Special Andesite tufted carpet covers the floor.

All these changes ensured the X-1 needed special homologation for road use. The car has been thoroughly engineered to be usable and road legal. The X-1 shares the same the major mechanical components as the 12C, including the twin-turbo 625PS engine, giving astonishing acceleration and top speed.

Stephenson explains: 'The X-1 epitomises how we can not only create a truly unique product tailored to the client, but also enable the client to become a key member of the design team throughout the process. Hong Yeo concludes: 'We designers are often blinded by the sun and assume that whatever we see and understand is the only way forward: to see the stars, sometimes you need the absence of that blinding light ... looking at a car from a different perspective is what X-1 stands for.'

After its debut, on the Monterey Peninsular, the X-1 will return to MSO headquarters in Woking and be carefully checked over before it takes a place in the owner's collection.

'But it's certainly not just colour and trim,' notes Paul Mackenzie. 'A number of cars have had different front and rear bumpers, which has increased downforce and boosted performance. These cars had to go through full aerodynamic CFD testing before engineering sign-off.'

Adds Mackenzie: 'We're here to help the client personalise the car to their precise taste. They typically come to Woking to see us, or talk to their dealer, or we go to see them. We'll sit down with them, listen to their requests, then come up with a new colour or mechanical components, or - as with X-1 - a new "tailor made" car. Of course we make recommendations but we're certainly not here to be style police. Every client is different. Our main job is to listen and then to interpret the owner's requests into a superb car.'

As Mackenzie concludes: 'This is the first fully client commissioned MSO car, but it certainly won't be the last. The carbon fibre MonoCell chassis used in the 12C, is not only stiff and light, it allows for great flexibility in body styling and provides an affordable structure from which MSO can develop unique cars, as is demonstrated with X-1.'

BMW Zagato Coupé - Only Car - BMW Group

Wow, is this ever nice....
 
You wouldn’t look at the BMW Zagato Coupe and say that it’s a car that was created on the “from follows function” principle, but you’d be wrong. The Italian coachbuilder’s designers used the “Vmax concept” when bringing the vehicle to life.

This meant that they had to draw a vehicle that came with aerodynamic characteristics which allowed for it to be driven at high speeds in an efficient manner. They used the BMW Z4 as a base and fitted it with a hand-built aluminum body, which comes with special features such as beefy fenders and a double bubble roof, as wee as a transparent area for the rear end.

Of course, since efficiency was mentioned, and we do know that BMW really knows how to cut fuel consumption, we’re expecting impressive figure, but the automotive producer hasn’t offer any specs until now - we don’t even know what engine is powering the car. Lamborghini Aventador J Sold for $2.76 Million


Yes, the stunning Lamborghini Aventador J is already sold to an unnamed collector for the lofty sum of $2.74 million at current conversion rates.

There is only one Lamborghini Aventador J and whoever the lucky individual is who ultimately purchased the Aventador J, he or she bought an incredibly beautiful and well-engineered machine and no doubt left those they outbid with the lingering taste of jealousy.

Brand representatives naturally would not divulge the name of the buyer, but acknowledged that whoever bought it would experience what the company called an “extreme driving experience.”

Aventador J was essentially a show-pony concept car, revealed at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, that demonstrated just what the flagship Lambo could be capable of. About that there is no doubt: The J is an open-cockpit two-seater, capable of speeds in excess of 180 miles an hour.

It packs 691 hp from the same 6.5-liter engine as its fixed-roof, serially produced sibling and is clad in a shade called Rosso Red. It makes extensive use of carbon fiber, including a patented material called “carbon skin” for the interior.

Toyota plans 4 door RWD sedan version of FT-86(GT-86) sport car

There’re report that Toyota developing a sedan version of the Toyobaru,Toyota FT-86, since 2010.But now Autointrends got the latest rendering and we considers it the prettiest that Autointrends ever seen it the past few year!!.The picture is generated by Japanese Mag-X.

It seem that the sedan version will import front half styling of the FT-86 Or the GT-86 that they called in Europe (when it get European premiere in 2012 Geneva motorshow or Toyota 86 that they dubbed in Japan) Although the styling of the sedan version is not yet finalize but many source expect bumper,grille,bonnet and headlight is to be the same with the coupe version.While the rear styling from the rear door to rear bumper will be all new design which should be sedan with rear roof’s slope like the 4 door coupe car.

The car will get lengthen wheel base from 2,570 mm to 2,670 mm. and overall length is expect to increase from 4,240 mm to around 4300 mm to 4400 mm.

It will power by Subaru’s newly developed, horizontally opposed, 1,998cc, four-cylinder boxer engine, Toyota has added its D-4S technology. With separate twin injectors for both direct and port injection which carry from the original version.

The car will ready by 2014,Around a year delay from original planed.

Next Generation Mazda Miata/MX-5

Mazda is hard at work on a new MX-5 that’s set to capture the spirit of the original eighties model, thanks to a huge reduction in weight and a pure and simple driving experience.

Key to the next-generation MX-5 is the firm’s SKYACTIV technologies that focus on reducing weight and improving efficiency. While the current car weighs around 1,050kg, Mazda engineers are reportedly on track for a kerbweight of under 900kg.

Mazda has said that it hopes the body alone will account for a 10 per cent weight loss, despite the fact it is about 30 per cent stiffer than the current car, thanks to the use of more high-strength steel.

The chassis itself will also be 10 per cent lighter than the current car's, with redesigned suspension and steering hoping to offer a lightness and agility at low speeds but a more secure feeling at high speeds.

With a new lighter car will come a range of smaller capacity engines. Currently the MX-5 is powered by 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engines producing up to 170bhp. The new car is expected to use a turbocharged 1.3-litre SKYACTIV engine, although a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre unit will also be offered.

The MX-5’s new look is inspired by the Takeri concept that debuted at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. The new design language incorporates a larger shield grille and defined creases in the bodywork.

Expect the next-generation Mazda MX-5 to be unveiled towards the end of 2013, with sales starting the following year.

2015 Toyota Supra to be a hybrid with 400 hp - report

Smaller coupe also under consideration
The rumor mill is back in action as a new report is indicating Toyota is developing a Supra successor.

According to Motor Trend, the car will likely be launched in 2015 and feature a hybridized 3.5-liter V6 engine with more than 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS). Additional information is limited, but the model will reportedly be rear-wheel drive and have styling that recalls the 2007 FT-HS concept.

In related news, engineers are reportedly working on a coupe version of the GRMN hybrid concept II concept. It could be launched by late 2014 and use the same hybridized 3.5-liter V6 engine as the Lexus GS 450h.

Acura NSX Successor Taking Shape

Ahead-of-Its-Time Honda Dualnote Concept Provides Powertrain Clues

At Honda's recent shareholders' meeting in Tokyo, a middle-aged man stood up during the Q&A session and asked whether the company was going to reinterpret a small, sporty car like the Beat for the 21st century. "While I am still young enough to enjoy sports driving, I'd like to drive something compact and sporty, something like an updated Beat. What are the chances of that?" he said poignantly.

Honda CEO Takanobu Ito took the microphone and replied without hesitation. "We are currently developing a successor to the Beat, a car that anyone can easily have fun with. Expect to see it in showrooms within the next few years." The comment dominated the headlines the next day. Strangely, Ito's subsequent utterance didn't get nearly as much play, but potentially was much more significant to those pining away for a road-going Honda supercar: "In addition to the Beat successor, we are also making significant progress with plans for an exotic sports car."

Just six months ago, Ito told a media gathering that Honda felt compelled to re-launch a high-performance sports car like the NSX, but he didn't go so far as to say it was definitely happening. But it was the first time Ito had actually uttered the telling phrase "making significant progress with plans to..." build a successor.

To get a clearer idea of exactly what Honda has planned, a source close to Honda suggested we go back a decade and re-examine the Dualnote, a gasoline-hybrid, all-wheel-drive concept car first shown way back at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show. Powered by a midship-mounted (Japanese-speak for mid-engined) 3.5-liter V-6 with Honda's IMA hybrid system, the four-door concept's front wheels were propelled by in-wheel electric motors, while the rears were driven by the engine, a combination that reportedly generated more than 400 horsepower. The Dualnote was so advanced back then that all Honda did was adapt the drive system (minus the in-wheel electric motors) to the soon-to-be-launched Legend, thus creating the SH-AWD system.

Ten years down the track, Honda is still perfecting that original AWD hardware, which includes the large-capacity engine with hybrid combination, motors that propel the fronts, and V-6-driven rears. Another insider tells us the car's target specifications have already been decided. "Honda wants to build a supercar that breaks the mold while creating a totally new technological package," he said. So what we are going to see is a further development of that 2001 concept, but adapted for today's fuel economy and emissions expectations.

It's not a car that rests on its engine-generated power alone. The extra herbs produced by the front-mounted electric motors will make the next-generation NSX a very quick car. "It has to be fast to live up to the expectations of a future NSX, right!?" pleads our insider. He went onto say that a record Nurburgring lap time is not Honda's target. "But be rest assured, this car will be the top in its class, and the powerful engine-motor combination will achieve that result."

Our sources inform us that Honda is working on a VTEC V-6 engine displacing 3.5 to 3.7 liters that boasts a cylinder head with an integrated exhaust manifold and valveless throttle. Obviously it will be of the Atkinson cycle variety. The two-motor setup will be powered by lithium-ion batteries and employ a plug-in recharge system to minimize battery weight.

The original Dualnote system incorporated an engine that drove an on-board generator powering the motors, a system considered inherently inefficient. By fitting an all-new continuous current motor to the new concept, engineers have been able to minimize electricity consumption while at the same time creating a gutsy torque-generating, high-revving system. "This system will be the secret to the NSX successor's incredible pace," suggests our source.

One other critical aspect of the new car will be its weight-saving aluminum body, a process carried over from the first NSX. And the final part of the package is price. Our sources tell us that Honda wants to bring the car to the U.S. as an Acura by 2014 for under $100,000 -- a sticker price designed to rival that of the Nissan GT-R.

Toyota FT-86 / Scion FR-S specs leaked via training manual

Last week, we saw leaked images of a tricked out Toyota FT-86 thanks to a leaked brochure of the company’s in-house tuning arm Modellista. Over the weekend, another brochure was leaked showing the production version of the Toyota FT-86. We now have another leak – a training manual that gives us more information on the specs and options that will be available on/with the FT-86 and Scion FR-S (as it will be sold in the United States).

If the document is to be believed, the Toyota FT-86 will weigh in at 2,662 pounds (with manual) and will be powered by a 2.0 liter flat 4-cylinder engine making 197-hp at 7,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 150 lb-ft at 6,600 rpm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual as standard and an optional 6-speed automatic.

The document also shows that the FT-86 and FR-S will be available in two trim levels. The base will be a lower-spec model that has only the limited-slip diff with the manual transmission. The higher-spec model will get a limited-slip rear differential in both manual and automatic versions. Higher-spec models will also get leather-wrapped steering, ‘high-quality’ seats, LED accent lighting, a 6-speaker audio system, sport pedals and white-lighted gauges and larger wheels.
