The 2010 Honda Insight hybrid, which went on sale in Japan on February 6, has been ranked the industry’s best-selling new car in Japan for the month of April. Honda sold a total of 10,481 units of the Insight, making it the first time a hybrid model has held the spot in Japan for a monthly sales period.
Honda said that its Fit was the best selling new car in Japan in 2008 and the fiscal year ending March 31, 2009. Fit was also the best-selling car in March for the fourth consecutive month until it was knocked out by the Insight.
Toyota has made it clear that it is aware of the challenges set forth with Honda’s new hybrid.
In the U.S., pricing for the 2010 Toyota Prius starts at $21,750, $1,280 more than the $20,470 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid.
